Dan Hardy Teases PFL Showdown Against Former UFC Champion After Repeated Callouts
Ron Chenoy-USA TODAY Sports

Dan Hardy is once again suggesting that he’s close to a return to fighting, and this time it would apparently take place in the PFL against a former UFC titleholder.

“The Outlaw” had to put his career on hold in 2013 when he was diagnosed with Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome, but in recent years the Englishman has repeatedly indicated he’s interested in fighting again in some capacity. Hardy was expected to meet Diego Sanchez in a boxing match last year before that fight fell through, which has left the former UFC title challenger to focus on his work as an analyst for the PFL as well as support his wife Veronica in her own fighting career.

There's been recent speculation that the 41-year-old might be nearing a return to action based on some of his social media posts, and during a Submission Radio appearance Hardy detailed that another fighter seems eager for a matchup with him.

“I’ll be honest, I was quite happy to kind of focus on my new job and focus on Veronica’s career and let her be the fighter,” Hardy said. “But then I get a phone call the other week and someone’s been calling the PFL asking to fight me. So I think he basically wants to be on the [Francis] Ngannou PPV card, that’s what I’ve figured out from the circumstance. And he feels like I’m an easy candidate…I’m always ready to throw down, and I don’t get the same impression from him. So we’ll gut check him when I see him and see if I can get any kind of ink on a contract finally.”

Dan Hardy Provides Hint On Potential Opponent's Identity

Hardy wasn’t going to get out of the interview without being asked for a hint about the fighter that’s called him out, and although “The Outlaw” wouldn’t reveal a name he did indicate that it’s a former UFC champion.

“All I’ll say is he used to hold a UFC title. That’s all I’ll say. I’ll wait for the rest of it to flesh itself out. ‘Cause he’s had a contract before with my name on it, and he never signed it. That was boxing, maybe this’ll entice him differently given the fact that it’s MMA. But I don’t think so, I think if he closed his eyes he visualizes the pressure I’m gonna put him under and he cracked before he’s even got out of bed.”

The 41-year-old also mentioned he and the unnamed fighter would both be in San Antonio for the PFL’s upcoming card on August 4, and a question from Submission Radio host Kacper Rosolowski about if the person in question was Tyron Woodley immediately drew a laugh from Hardy.

“The Chosen One” is also currently working an analyst with the PFL, and if he is in fact the fighter calling Hardy out it would be for Woodley’s first MMA bout since 2021. The UFC’s former welterweight champion exited the promotion after suffering four-straight losses, and in 2021 he met Jake Paul in the boxing ring twice but came up short on both occasions.
