As former clutch Los Angeles Laker Robert Horry once famously stated, “Pressure can burst a pipe or pressure can make a diamond.” According to UFC president Dana White, Uriah Hall (pictured) simply cracked under the Octagon’s glaring spotlight on Saturday night.
“I don’t think he showboated, I think he mentally broke,” White said of Hall after the post-fight press conference. “You saw what he had this season [of "The Ultimate Fighter 17"], but you find out what a guy really has when you’re under pressure.
“When you’re under pressure, you find out who the Anderson Silvas and Georges St-Pierres are – those type of guys.”
Speaking of Silva, there were some ready to pit Hall against the UFC’s most decorated champion based off the highlight reel footage he created heading into the TUF finals. White certainly didn’t help derail the hoopla when he previously dubbed Hall “the most feared guy to come out of TUF, ever.”
Yeah, about that…
Despite being an overwhelming 4-to-1 odds-on favorite to dispose of Kelvin Gastelum and challenge Silva for his throne, it was Gastelum who left Las Vegas with a split decision victory, six-figure UFC contract and shiny new Harley-Davidson motorcycle.
Nonetheless, taking into account the buzz Hall created for himself on the reality show, the now-7-3 fighter will likely get another shot in the big leagues. But not before he gets right between the ears.
“He’s got a lot of skills, and his wrestling looked good [Saturday],” White added of Hall. “I mean, everything looked good, he’s just got to work on his head.
“I just told him that, ‘You’ve got to get that head straight. You’re not mean enough.’”

After the last few months of TUF 17: Uriah Hall, it was hard to imagine a scenario in which Uriah Hall wouldn’t be holding The Ultimate Fighter trophy over his head, but last night it actually happened. Not only did someone defeat the monster Uriah, but it was the last pick on Team Sonnen. Talk about an underdog story. That’s not to take away from Kelvin Gastelum, the kid’s...
Dana White called TUF 17 star Uriah Hall, “The best fighter to ever come out of the competition” during his press conference last week. This week he has changed his stance and shocked many writers by saying, “I didn’t think he showboated. I think he mentally broke.”
Hall started his match against Kelvin Gastelum timidly and the aggressive Gastelum took little time using...
UFC President Dana White joined members of the media after the traditional post-fight press conference to discuss several prevalent topics including Kelvin Gustalem’s upset win over Uriah Hall, Ronda Rousey vs. Cat Zingano on TUF and much more. While this scrum is much shorter than the usual ones, it is stil worth the watch.
Watch the complete media scrum below:
UFC president Dana White was beyond hesitant to allow women to compete inside of his Octagon. Two female fights later and the ladies have proven they know how to put on a show.
Cat Zingano (pictured) and Miesha Tate took center stage Saturday night at “The Ultimate Fighter 17 Finale,” with the victor earning coaching duties opposite bantamweight queen Ronda Rousey on TUF 18 and...
This was an amazing night of fights to cap of a great season of The Ultimate Fighter. I disagree with Dana on a point here though, I thought the Miesha Tate Cat Zingano fight was stopped prematurely. That was a back and forth amazing fight with a ton on the line and Tate deserved a chance to withstand the storm and try to make it through. Zingano likely would have finished...
When it comes to MMA referees, Kim Winslow is about as incompetent as they come – just ask UFC president Dana White. Yet, there she was once again as the third person inside the Octagon on Saturday night.
Did Winslow miss Cat Zingano’s illegal knee to a grounded Miesha Tate (pictured)?
“Cupcake” claims possibly.
Did Winslow pull the trigger too quickly in halting Zingano’s...
A new network, new day and time, new coaches and new captivating story lines. The Ultimate Fighter, the Ultimate Fighting Championship’s (UFC) signature reality series, moves to FOX Sports 1, FOX Sports’ newly minted multi-sport national cable channel, when it returns in September. The series, featuring UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey and challenger Cat Zingano as [...]
Brad Royster had on a silver Spartan helmet as he stood in line ahead of Tyler Bialecki, who wore a white cowboy hat. Nearby sat Davey Grant in his Union Jack dress complete with a blonde wig.
As usual, there were certainly a few among the more than 200 fighters seeking to be part of the next season of The Ultimate Fighter who attempted to sell more than just their MMA abilities...
Conor McGregor is making a name for himself after a big win in his UFC debut last Saturday. He lived up to the hype. Now, Irish MMA is getting put on the map. Look forward to more from McGregor.

UFC President Dana White spoke about his recent conversation with professional boxer Andre Berto about fighting under the Zuffa banner.
“It is true, we bumped into each other one night in Los Angeles, and you know, he’s a tough guy, he’s a fighter and he said, ‘You know, man, I would love to try this UFC stuff.’ I said, ‘Brother, you better work on...
Uriah Hall has a ton of ability, maybe as much as anyone in the UFC, but his killer instinct remains a mystery. I’m not taking anything away from Kelvin, but I though Hall won rounds 2&3, but he needs to stop apologizing for knocking dudes out and he needs to go for the kill.

Thirty fights into his boxing career (28-2), Andre Berto has remained optimistic about his future in more than one combat sport.
When asked how far he can get in MMA, Berto answered: “I know a lot of the basics. So don’t be surprised…I talked to Dana White about this last time I seen him. So don’t be surprised if I try to get in that and win a title. Then...
This Saturday night we get the second female fight inside the UFC when Meisha “Cupcake” Tate takes on “Alpha” Cat Zingano in the co-main event for TUF17 finale. There is a lot at stake for this fight, not only does the winner get a title shot against Rhonda Rousey, they also will be the other coach for the next season of TUF. The first females to coach on TUF in the first...
After a night of freebie MMA action, UFC President Dana White awarded Travis Browne (pictured), Daniel Pineda, Cat Zingano and Miesha Tate each an additional $50,000 for their special performances Saturday night at “The Ultimate Fighter 17 Finale.”
Zingano and Tate earned ‘Fight of the Night’ for their thrilling back-and-forth battle. Zingano was the card’s biggest winner...
It may not have gone down exactly the way that the UFC had hoped it would. Heavily hyped TUF Wrecking Machine Uriah Hall laid a pretty big egg in his TUF finale bout against Kelvin Gastelum, and dropped a Split Decision to the last overall pick on the show.
