Earlier this month, boxing superstar Floyd Mayweather said his “The Money Team” wants to hop aboard the mixed martial arts bandwagon by managing fighters. UFC president Dana White (pictured), who would be dealing directly with boxing’s biggest draw in contract negotiations if that came to fruition, states he’d welcome Mayweather with open arms into the world of MMA. “I’ve been here for 13 years, man, and I’ve seen every manager, would-be promoter, whatever, come and go … but at the end of the day, when somebody’s contract is up, we negotiate with somebody. It doesn’t matter who it is, we’re gonna negotiate with somebody,” White said Monday at a media gathering in Los Angeles. “That’s never going to change. It’s always going to be that way. Contracts end and you go into negotiations with whoever it is that’s handling their deal. And for guys like Floyd and his whole team over there to be saying they’re interested in managing fighters and getting involved in MMA, I don’t see how that’s a bad thing. It’s a good thing, it’s a positive thing.” Because Mayweather’s persona is centered around his undying devotion to stockpiling money, many thought there would be conflict between he and White if they were forced to square-off at the negotiating table – particularly since all MMA fighters earn a fraction of what Mayweather does and he’s accustomed to seeing at least three more zeroes on contracts he signs off on. Nobody knows how to promote a fight like “Money,” so his addition to MMA would only help the sport grow. That’s exactly why White says he’s ready and willing to welcome Mayweather into his world. However, the two powerhouses have yet to discuss the possible venture in detail. “I haven’t,” White responded when asked if he’s discussed MMA with Mayweather. “I mean, what would we talk about? He’s either going to get some fighters, and I’m sure we’ll talk then when he does, or he won’t.”
