Do you remember how happy Charlie was when he cracked open that Wonka Bar and discovered he had won the last Golden Ticket? And of course, who could forget about his classic celebration with Grandpa Joe?
Well, that’s pretty much how featherweight Erik Koch (Pictured) reacted when he hung up the phone after UFC brass notified him that he’d challenge champ Jose Aldo for the title on July 21st – sans the song and dance, of course.
“First of all, when I found out I got the fight – I mean, I’ve been trying to get a fight for the title, this is my dream – and when I got the call I literally went into my living room, got down to my knees and just screamed at the top of my lungs,” Koch shared during Wednesday’s press conference.
“This is 23 years in the making. I’ve been doing this since I was a little kid. Just to be here and to get a chance, especially against such a dominant champion. So I’m just really excited.”
Koch outpointed Jonathan Brookins in September for a unanimous decision victory to collect his fourth consecutive win. He was scheduled to face Dustin Poirier at UFC 143, but withdrew due to injury and has been on the mend ever since.
The promising 23-year-old looks to cash in his golden ticket for some UFC bling-bling inside Scotiabank Saddledome in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
