The fight card for UFC 148 gets a new addition with the announcement of a lightweight battle between Gleison Tibau and Khabib Nurmagomedov. UFC officials announced the match-up earlier on Thursday.
UFC 148 will take place from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on July 7th. The card features a bantamweight title bout and third meeting between champion Dominick Cruz and rival Urijah Faber.
Tibau (25-7), a longtime UFC competitor, is coming off a successful year in 2011 in which he won all three of his fights. A Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt, Tibau has recorded eleven of his career wins by submissions. He has notable wins over Kurt Pellegrino, Josh Neer and Rafael dos Anjos.
Nurmagomedov (17-0) will be putting his undefeated record on the line when he steps into the Octagon for the second time. The Russian-born fighters has finished nine straight opponents. In his debut at UFC on FX 1, Nurmagomedov defeated Kamal Shalorus by rear-naked choke submission in the third round.
