Ilia Topuria Surprisingly Trashes Epic Finish To Max Holloway-Justin Gaethje Fight

Several years ago, Georges St-Pierre uttered the “not impressed” phrase. Now, Ilia Topuria is taking hold of it.

Topuria, the reigning UFC featherweight champion, was in attendance at UFC 300 over the weekend. He watched as Max Holloway knocked out Justin Gaethje in what many are saying is the knockout of the year. And maybe more.

But Topuria was not impressed. In fact, he was even caught on camera after Holloway called him out looking disinterested or unsure of the situation.

“Well, it was good. Nothing special to be honest,” Topuria told ESPN. “The ending was only an exchange of punches without any strategy. Both just throwing punches. Zero defense, hands down.

“That kind of things can happen but that is something that would never happen with me. I think inside the Octagon.”

Topuria added that “Holloway was talking a lot during the week. It’s normal.”

“It is what he has to do,” he said. “He needs to believe he is the best.”

The reigning champion pointed out that he finished Alexander Volkanovski whereas Holloway “was not able to do in 90 minutes” what he accomplished in just nine.

“He can say whatever he wants,” Topuria said. “Enjoy now and get ready for what’s coming.”

Ilia Topuria Stands Firm Atop UFC Featherweight Division

The 27-year-old is a perfect 15-0 in his career, having finished 13 of his opponents. In February, he claimed his first UFC title with a second round knockout of Volkanovski.

Topuria signed with the UFC after competing for Cage Warriors and Brave FC. He made his promotional debut in 2020 with a decision, reeling off four straight finishes after.

The champion earned his title shot with a decision win vs. Josh Emmett in his first main event last June. He also made his lightweight debut in 2022, stopping Jai Herbert.
