Jack Della Maddalena Reveals Return Timeline Post-Surgery, Pitches Second Opponent Option Alongside Shavkat Rakhmonov

Despite suffering a broken arm at UFC 299 last month, welterweight contender Jack Della Maddalena is confident of being fit to return on home soil this summer.

Della Maddalena secured the biggest win of his career to date at the March pay-per-view event in Miami, Florida, where he mounted a memorable comeback to get the better of former title challenger Gilbert Burns.

Through two rounds, the Australian's chances of securing a spot inside the top five at 170 pounds were fading. But just as a certain decision defeat was approaching, Della Maddalena stopped "Durinho" with a brutal knee and some relentless follow-up shots.

Making the last-gasp win even more impressive, X-rays were subsequently released showing a severe break to Della Maddalena's left arm sustained early on in the fight.

Fortunately, despite the injury, it doesn't appear that the #5-ranked contender will be on the sidelines for too long.

Della Maddalena Still Targeting Home Fight At UFC 305

During a recent interview on the Grin Reaper YouTube channel, Della Maddalena reflected on his major triumph in Miami last month and looked ahead to what could await him inside the cage next time out.

In terms of the timeline for his next fight, the Australian gave some positive news following surgery on his broken arm, revealing that he should be ready to go at the UFC 305 pay-per-view in Perth, Australia, this August.

"I had surgery on Tuesday. I think 12 weeks is like, the full-contact sort of area, and I feel like I can be fit in 12 weeks as well, then probably just need a few weeks after it," Della Maddalena said. "So I reckon, yeah, August is probably what we're gunning for."

In terms of an opponent, Della Maddalena has already received a positive response from Rakhmonov following the callout he sent the Kazakh's way post-UFC 299.

But should the promotion pursue other avenues, the Aussie wouldn't be opposed to serving as the next opponent for Kamaru Usman, should the former welterweight champ choose against a second dip into the 185-pound waters.

"It's a fight I've wanted for a while. I think with the way it works out now, obviously Leon (Edwards) and Belal (Muhammad) will fight, so it's good timing for me and him (Rakhmonov) to fight," Della Maddalena stated. "I've always wanted to fight Shavkat. I think he's the best... And it could possibly be in Perth.

"(If not Rakhmonov), maybe Usman? Possibly, I don't know," Della Maddalena added.

It remains to be seen whether or not "The Nigerian Nightmare" will follow in Nomad's" footsteps by reciprocating Della Maddalena's fight interest. Either way, perhaps one of the two will be heading Down Under in a few months' time.
