Matt “The Hammer” Hamill comes out of retirement to return to face newcomer Roger Hollett in a light heavyweight bout at UFC 152 in Toronto. Yahoo Sports Cagewriter initially reported the news earlier on Friday.
Hamill (10-4), who was born deaf, is a former college wrestling champion and member of Season 3 of The Ultimate Fighter. The inspiration fighter retired in 2011 following consecutive losses to Quinton “Rampage” Jackson and Alexander Gustafsson. Hamill holds wins over Tito Ortiz, Keith Jardine, Mark Munoz and Jon “Bones” Jones. He was dominated by Jones but was awarded the win after Bones was disqualified for an illegal elbow.
Hollett (13-3) will enter his UFC debut riding a five fight winning streak. He last competed at Bellator 57 in December 2011 where he notched a split decision win over John Hawk.
UFC 152 takes place on September 22nd from the Air Canada Centre in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Also announced for the fight card today was a bantamweight bout between Mitch Gagnon and Walel Watson. UFC 152 will feature Joseph Benavidez and Demetrious Johnson squaring off to become inaugural flyweight champion.
