UFC lightweight fighter Melvin Guillard is leaving the Blackzillians in South Florida and heading back to his previous camp in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The Young Assassin announced the news via his twitter page
Melvin Guillard spent 2012 with the Blackzilians after loosing to Joe Lauzon within the first minute of round one in October of 2011. Before that loss Melvin was on a five fight winning streak while with Jackson. He would go 1-3 while in South Florida and with the UFC making serious roster cuts he cannot afford another loss. When Guillard left Jackson’s it was a peaceful breakup, unlike his teammate in New Mexico and Florida, Rashad Evans. Guillard stated he just needed a change and Jackson understood and made it clear that he was welcome back at the camp anytime. Seems like Melvin is making a good choice because for all of the hype the Blackzilians have gotten the team has really under performed.
