Chris Weidman Tees Up Potential Trilogy Fight With Anderson Silva In Boxing Before He Retires

At 39 years old with two fights left on his UFC deal, former middleweight champion Chris Weidman is starting to think about his curtain call.

He knows that a win over Bruno Silva this weekend in Atlantic City could see him get a big fight next time out but before he kicks his feet up, he wants to run it back with his old rival.

Weidman told Daniel Cormier in a recent interview that competing in boxing and making some big money is something he has in mind for the end of his career.

He even named a third fight with Anderson Silva as something that would entice him, having beaten the middleweight great in back-to-back fights in 2013.

"I love the UFC but obviously there's boxing matches out there, make a lot of money and I wouldn't mind ending my career with that. I love boxing actually and who wouldn't want to see Anderson Silva versus Chris Weidman, boxing match, you know what I mean. Can he get some revenge on me? So there's some cool fights out there."

Igor Severino Apologises To Andre Lima, Dana White & The UFC In His First Statement Following His Disqualification Last Weekend

Igor Severino became the biggest talking point of last weekend's UFC Fight Night at the Apex for less-than-stellar reasons.

The UFC debutant was disqualified in his fight with Andre Lima and immediately cut from the promotion after biting his opponent in the second round.

Severino has now spoken on the fight for the first time in an article by Nolan King for MMA Junkie.

He explained what the fall-out from last week has been like and expressed a lot of remorse for his actions and the people that it affected.

“It’s been crazy – some crazy days. One day, I was fighting in the best promotion in the world. I was making my dream come true. The next moments, I’m banned from the promotion.”

“My dream became a nightmare overnight. I’m very regretful to my opponent. I apologize to (Lima), to Dana (White), to the Nevada Athletic Commission, to Sean Shelby, who spoke to me after the fight, to Mick (Maynard) – everyone in the organization – and the fans. Sorry to everyone who was watching that on TV. They didn’t deserve to see that.”

Severino went on to say that he doesn't remember the incident itself after being hit by a shot in the fight that put him into "autopilot".

“I remember everything that was happening until I got hit with something really hard. I watched the video later and I thought it was an elbow. From there, I was on autopilot. I don’t remember anything.”

Conor McGregor Admits UFC May Offer Less Money Than Other Promotions But Highlights Perks Of Being Associated With It

Despite his years of frustration due to not getting fights and several short retirements, Conor McGregor has always been a company man when it comes to the UFC.

"The Notorious" will be quick to tell anyone about how much the promotion has changed his life and that he will always be a fan of what they do.

He may be an extremely unique case in terms of the way that competing inside the Octagon has made him into a mega star but McGregor believes that the prestige of the UFC is what makes them so special.

He told TNT Sports in a recent interview that where the UFC may not always make the biggest financial offer to MMA fighters all of the time, they make up for it in you being associated with their brand.

"It was certainly a major launchpad," McGregor said. "To be aligned with the UFC for anyone is a major launch pad, it's one of their negotiating tactics all right, you're with the UFC now, that in itself is prestige. Which is enough to say, you know, you may- you could take a lower value [in terms of pay] than another area may offer you in today's climate. But it's the UFC brand value [that you're associating with], and that holds mega weight.

"Look at how it has worked out for me," McGregor continued, referring to how the UFC brand has contributed to his success. "It has helped me, it has helped catapult me into many arenas where I have succeeded immensely."
