Looks like Josh Rosenthal (pictured) won’t be celebrating 4/20 this year. It appears Rosenthal’s MMA refereeing career may have gone up in smoke after pleading guilty to conspiracy to manufacture and distribute marijuana and possession with intent to distribute. According to court documents obtained by MMAJunkie on Wednesday, Rosenthal was arrested last year on felony charges after authorities raided an Oakland, California warehouse owned by Rosenthal and an associate and confiscated 1,356 marijuana plants. The street value of the weed was roughly $6 million. Rosenthal initially pleaded not guilty to the charges in October, but changed his tune in January as part of a plea agreement. Under terms of the deal, prosecutors are recommending 37 months in jail, fines and five years of probation, during which he would be subject to random searches. Without the plea, Rosenthal faced 10 years to life in prison, a $10 million fine and a minimum of five years probation. Rosenthal is scheduled for sentencing May 17.

  • his warehouse is in the wrong state. stupid that the stuff is not legal. what better way to paid the taxes for this country.
  • This is criminal not the marijuana. There are dispensaries and delivery stores all over my area in Sacramento and the entire state, somebody has to grow it, it is not that many plants really considering demand for the legal product! The only reason 1500 plants are worth $ 6million dollars is because it was illegal! Imagine if watermelons or apples were illegal, they would be $50 an apple too,an orchard would sound like a billion dollar enterprise! I can see if there was tax dodging but that is not mentioned here and certainly would have had stiffer consequences, 3 years of a mans life in a prison for this non violent alleged offense is what offends me as an American. Try sitting in a closet with a light bulb on alone for 23 hours and for 1 hour MAYBE let yourself walk around the back yard 30 times in circles and go back to your closet.
Oh yes, there are homicidal killers, serial killers, sociopaths, the dregs of the earth there that do belong there and they want to rape you too!Is this what we want? What in the world did he do to deserve to be destroyed?
The set up of if you assert your rights you must be penalized is anti American and makes many criminals out of those who are not but unwilling to roll the dice on a potential lifetime sentence! or even 10 yrs, he should be able to go to trial knowing if he loses he has the punishment initially offered by the DA, This is a brave soul who would ever assert their rights in this scenario no matter how innocent you were!
    This sickens and saddens me.

John Farrell: Pitchers need an approved gripping substance

John Farrell thinks Major League Baseball needs to write down one of its unwritten rules.   After Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Will Smith and Baltimore Orioles pitcher Brian Matusz both were ejected last week and suspended eight games for having a foreign substance on their arms, the great debate about grip-enhancers was brought up once again. And the Boston Red Sox...

Cam Newton: Nobody has ever been who I'm trying to be

Not many quarterbacks measure 6-foot-6 and weigh in at 260 pounds like Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton. Report: Paul Pierce could opt out of contract, join Clippers

While Celtics fans would love to see Paul Pierce finish out his career in Boston, many seem to think that won’t be the case.   There’s reportedly a belief around the NBA that Pierce will opt out of his final season with the Washington Wizards to play for the Los Angeles Clippers, NBA.com’s David Aldridge reported Monday. Report: NBA exploring moving start of Finals up

The NBA’s conference finals have been the definition of anti-climax as both series appear headed towards four-game sweeps. But that’s nowhere near as unexciting as the wait until the start of the NBA Finals will be. The starting date of the Finals was set as June 5 before the end the second round. And had either conference final been even remotely interesting, that would not...

The Boston Celtics plan to be big players in free agency this offseason, and Danny Ainge, the team’s president of basketball operations, is seeking the help of his No. 1 scorer. “Danny said if there’s any free agent out there I’m interested in, to let him know,” Thomas...

Baseball players in the military: A tribute

During the course of a 162-game season, many people take baseball for granted. Game after game, day after day, tend to encourage an attitude of complacency among fans and likely even the players.  This wonderful sport that has been around since the Civil War era is so ingrained in our consciousness that it’s comparable to breathing to many folks. We don’t think about breathing...

'Free Tom Brady' rally draws about 150 Patriots fans

New England Patriots fans will do anything to support their quarterback. For a decent handful, that meant ditching their Memorial Day weekend plans.   About 150 people gathered in a parking lot outside Gillette Stadium on Sunday morning as part of a “Free Tom Brady” rally to protest the quarterback’s suspension for his role in Deflategate. “You can’t win...

LeBron's triple-double leads Cavs to win in OT thriller

Cleveland Cavaliers guard LeBron James may have missed his first 10 shots, including all nine in the first quarter. Kyrie Irving might have been sitting out for the second consecutive game. At the end of the night, it didn’t matter. Riding yet another awe-inspiring overall performance from a hobbled James, Cleveland defeated the Atlanta Hawks 114-111 in overtime to take a 3-0...
