If you’re free this weekend, you will have your fill of MMA to watch.  Friday night there is a UFC event on FX, a Titan event on HDNet and then Saturday Strikeforce takes over Showtime with a night full of amazing action.  There are solid scraps on all the cards, but here’s who should definitely shine and should not be missed!
Ian McCall vs. Demetrious Johnson (UFC Main Card on FX)
This fight is part of the four man UFC Flyweight elimination tournament to crown the UFC’s inaugural 125 pound Champion.  Ian McCall is on a four fight winning streak and is 11-2 overall.  He’s also currently the Tachi Palace Fighting Flyweight champion.  Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson is coming off of a loss in his bid to capture the Bantamweight title against Dominick Cruz.  These guys fight like lightning bugs at 135, just imagine the pace at 125.  It’s must-see as it will be a wild scrap and serves as the UFC’s first Flyweight tilt.

KJ Noons vs. Josh Thomson (Strikeforce Main Card on Showtime)
This is a fight not to miss for more than one reason.  Firstly, it’s two guys who will stand up and war.  They will not back down from a scrap and both love to stand and trade.  So for that reason alone, it’s worth checking out.  Add to it that is return of Josh Thomson after 14 months on the shelf recovering from numerous injuries.  Thomson has never backed down, and will stay in the pocket with Noons and my hunch is, one of them will get KO’d.
Thiago Alves vs. Martin Kampmann (UFC Main Card on FX)
This fight just screams potential fireworks.  Martin Kampmann has lost two of his last five, but in all honesty, it could be said that he deserved to win all five.  He lost a split decision to Jake Shields that was questionable and dropped another to Diego Sanchez that many felt he’d won.  So he could be on a five fight winning streak heading into this fight.  Alves has lost three of five, but he brings it every single fight.  He has power in both hands and this fight should be bananas.  You would only expect this fight to hit the mat if someone gets hurt, or if Kampmann wants to work his advantages.  In the past, Kampmann has been content to trade, so here’s hoping he does Friday night as well.
Miesha Tate vs. Ronda Rousey
This has been built pretty well in the media and if it lives up to the buildup, it’s going to be awesome.  These girls are both very accomplished and they legitimately dislike each other.  There are two schools of thought here, you either enjoy Ronda and her bluster and hope she wins the fight and reaches super-stardom, OR….you think her swagger is phony and her spot in the main event will be a enormous stage for an epic failure.  Whether you’re tuning in to see Ronda win, or tuning in to her get beaten up, at least you’re tuning in.  Personally, I think Tate is going to be too much too soon for Ronda and she’s going to be dismantled in a big way.
Sarah Kaufman vs. Alexis Davis (Strikeforce Prelims on Showtime Extreme)
I don’t know who Sarah offended, but the treatment she gets is crazy.  She won her title with Strikeforce on a Challengers event, then she defended it on a Challengers event and then she lost her title.  Now she finds herself after two wins on the preliminary card.  She deserves to be on the main card, and honestly, she deserves to be in the main event instead of Ronda Rousey but such is life.  Alexis Davis is a talented fighter who has won three consecutive fights.  Sarah is going to want to bring it in a big way this fight so she can get her title shot and Alexis Davis knows a win over Sarah puts her in the mix for a title shot as well.  One thing is certain, the women always bring it, and this should definitely be the case here.
Honorable Mention:  Strikeforce: Paul Daley vs. Kazou Misaki, Pat Healy vs. Caros Fodor.  UFC: Aaron Rosa vs. James Te Huna, Titan Fights 21:  Leonardo Pecanha vs. Jorge Santiago
