Found September 26, 2013 on Fox Sports:
The rematch of one of the best-ever UFC title bouts will have to wait. UFC light-heavyweight champion Jon Jones will bypass a rematch for now in order to fight No. 1 contender Glover Teixeira, according to a report from ESPN , citing UFC president Dana White. Jones, who was just cleared of any significant foot injury after visiting a specialist, is likely to make his next defense on Feb. 1, the eve of Super Bowl XLVIII, in Newark, New Jersey. His UFC 165 decision win over Alexander Gustafsson marked a record sixth light-heavyweight championship defense. While Jones (19-1) won unanimously on the judges' scorecards, the fight was close enough to warrant some controversy. The champion told FOX Sports 1's UFC Tonight on Wednesday that while he originally felt Gustafsson deserved an immediate rematch, upon watching multiple replays of the bout, he felt he won decisively enough to move on to a different opponent. Jones says since he feels that he decisively won the fight and isn't sure if @AlexTheMauler should get an immediate rematch. -- UFC Tonight (@UFCTonight) September 25, 2013 "I'm going to fight Glover and I will answer all the critics about the Gustafsson fight," Jones said in a statement. "I will fight Gustafsson after I fight Glover. I won the fight but I look at it as a blemish on my record because some people think I didn't. I promise you, he will be next." The 33-year-old Teixeira will take a 22-2 record and a 20-fight win streak into the bout. He's a perfect 5-0 in the UFC and last defeated Ryan Bader via technical knockout.

Champ still recovering from brawl

The news is back from Jon Jones' MRI, and this is one time a negative is a positive. His foot scan came back negative for any breaks or fractures. On Wednesday's edition of UFC Tonight, Ariel Helwani reported that Jones saw a foot specialist in Ithaca that cleared him of any long-term damage. Jones' team had feared that he had injured his foot in the first round of his...

Tall Tales: Jones, Gustafsson and Why Height Mattered

This past weekend Jon Jones successfully defended his Light-Heavyweight Championship against Alexander Gustafsson in a fight which has been described by many as the best title fight in UFC history. While that label may not be entirely accurate, it is certainly damn close. Basically every media outlet has already talked about the stakes of the fight, how it shapes both fighter’s...

Jon Jones chooses the next challenger to his belt, and it’s not Gustafsson, it’s Teixeira

Jon Jones has chosen his opponent, and although he, along with the rest of the world (besides me, cough) felt that Gus deserved a rematch, Jones has still decided on Glover Teixeira as his next challenger. Props to Bones for doing this, MMA has far too many rematches in short timespans in my opinion, and I think GLover is absolutelydeserving of this title shot, which should be taking...

Forget Jones-Gustafsson II, Jon Jones Will Fight Glover Teixeira Next Instead

Like most of us, even UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Jon Jones thought his title match with Alexander Gustaffson at UFC 165 last Saturday was so close that the only logical thing to do is plan an immediate rematch and give us another fight for the ages. But as he has been recovering from the incredible beating that Gustaffson gave him in a losing effort, Jones has had a chance to...

Jon Jones vs Glover Teixeira, Not Gustaffson Rematch, Set For UFC’s Super Bowl Weekend Card

UFC Light Heavyweight champion Jon Jones was in the toughest fight of his career last weekend vs Alexander Gustafsson. Jones won the fight but was taken to the hospital immediately after the fight ended. A rematch between the two fighters was automatically the topic of discussion; that rematch will have to wait. Jon Jones is sticking to his pre-fight plan and will fight #1 contender...

Glover Teixeira Is Next For Jon Jones

While it was looking likely that Alexander Gustafsson (15-2) may get an immediate rematch against light heavyweight champion Jon Jones (19-1) a report from ESPN suggests that the UFC will be going with their original plan after all and that Glover Teixeira (22-2, pictured) will receive the next shot at the champion. The bout […]

Jon Jones Next Opponent Officially Announced

The UFC officially announced that the next man to challenge Jon Jones for the light-heavyweight title will be Glover Teixeira. I hope Gustafsson and Cormier duke it out in a number one contender fight although that would likely put Alexander on the shelf for longer than he wants. What do you all think is next for ‘The Mauler’? Bones and The Mauler deliver a classic Gegard Mousasi...

Jones Versus Teixeira Set

Well folks, looks like we’ll have to wait a little longer to see a rematch between Jon Jones and Alexander Gustaffson. The UFC announced yesterday that Jones’ next opponent will be Glover Teixeira on SuperBowl weekend in New Jersey. Gustaffson is also tentatively scheduled to fight around the same time when the UFC makes a [...]

UFC 165 Phantom Cam highlights

We don’t appreciate Jon Jones. There, I said it. His brilliance in the cage is overshadowed by his weird and sometimes annoying personality. But in the cage, he’s fast approaching being the greatest of all time, period. Chael Sonnen had this to say on UFC on FOX about Jon Jones vs. Gustafsson: “Those elbows and the spinning elbows, and the step-in and the lead elbows that Jon...

Gustafsson talks UFC 165 war

Alexander Gustafsson dropped by UFC Tonight just four days after his incredible back-and-forth war for the ages against Jon Jones at UFC 165. 'The Mauler' took the stage with analysts Chael Sonnen and Kenny Florian to break down the fight against Jones and the future for 'The Mauler'. The first thing on everyone's mind after the fight was simple. When and where...

Dana White re-watched Jon Jones vs. Alexander Gustafsson, and feels there should be no controversy

Last Saturday night, UFC president Dana White could not stop raving about how great the match up between UFC Light Heavyweight champion Jon Jones and Alexander Gustafsson was. He got so into it he didn’t bother to even score the fight as he turned full mark half way through the first round. By the end of it, White probably suffered a few out of body experiences like the rest of...

Dana White: ‘No Controversy Whatsoever’ in Jon Jones’ Win

On Saturday night, UFC president Dana White removed his boss hat in favor of his fanboy cap. White was so mesmerized with what he was witnessing between UFC light heavyweight king Jon Jones (pictured) and Alexander Gustafsson that he couldn’t say who he thought had won their barnburner because he wasn’t able to score the fight. However, after leaving Toronto aboard his private...

Jon Jones’ Stunned Live Reaction to Anderson Silva’s KO Loss (Video)

With a potential box office superfight on the line with Anderson Silva, perhaps nobody was more disappointed to see “The Spider” get knocked out by Chris Weidman at UFC 162 than reigning UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones (pictured). Jones was sitting front and center with buddy Urijah Faber scouting the scrap, and the UFC filmed both men while the fight was live. It was...
