
As expected, it was announced during Wednesday’s press conference that the Octagon will be taking its talents to Calgary, Alberta, Canada on July 21st for UFC 149.
Scotiabank Saddledome will host the UFC’s debut in Bret “The Hitman” Hart’s homeland. The venue seats roughly 19,000 fans.
UFC president Dana White confirmed featherweight king Jose Aldo (Pictured) will defend his throne in the show’s featured attraction. However, an opponent has yet-to-be determined.
Aldo will be riding a 14-fight winning streak into Calgary. “Scarface” was last seen posterizing Chad Mendes at UFC 142.
The UFC has held eight cards in Canada – four in Montreal, two in Toronto and a pair in Vancouver. UFC 129 at Toronto’s Rogers Centre sold over 55,000 tickets for gate revenues exceeding $11 million. The April 2011 event shattered MMA attendance and gate records in North America.
