Both coming off losses to Flyweight Champion Demetrious Johnson, this fight will decide whether it will be Ian McCall or Joseph Benavidez that will get another crack at the champ. Ian McCall comes out to "Buried Alive" by Avenged Sevenfold. Joseph Benavidez to "Stranglehold" by Ted Nugent. Mazzagatti gets the assignment for this  Flyweight bout. Round 1: Uncle Creepy goes for a take down early but no dice. Benavidez lands a big shot and McCall just grins. Huge kick from McCall. Both of these men throw often and throw hard. Huge thuds. Benavidez wobbles McCall with a left. McCall is smiling but he's in pain. Benavidez lands a crotch shot. Creepy takes a moment to readjust. More legs kicks from McCall. He's scoring but Benavidez wobbles McCall again, and again. McCall's chin is being tested here. McCall is goating him on. Benavidez with a double jab. McCall smiles. McCall backs up Benavdiez with a right with just about 20 seconds left in the round. He drops Benavidez again, or maybe it was a slip. Great finish for McCall but it wasn't enough. 10-9 Benavidez heading into Round 2. The replay shows that headbutt opened up the forehead of Benavidez near the end of Round 1. Round 2: Benavidez continues to go for the kill early but McCall is doing a good job avoiding. He's scoring with some kicks but it's still Benavidez's fight to lose. Uppercut from Benavidez, knee to the body from McCall. McCall goes for the take down and Benavidez defends. Graphic shows head strikes advantage Benavidez, body strikes advantage McCall. McCall controlling the center of the cage now. McCall gets Benavidez down. He's hammering on him. McCall grazed Benavidez with a quick shot to the side of  the head and he's taking FULL advantage. He has the back of the team-alpha male fighter and he's scoring huge here with hammerfists. Benavidez is now against the cage and McCall is kneeing his body. McCall steals the round by dominating the final minute. We are even as we head into the 3rd and final round. Round 3: Benavidez answers the bell early with a huge right. McCall of course shoots back a trademark grin. Benavidez is now controlling the center of the cage. This kicks to the body from Benavidez are landing hard on McCall. Creepy scores a take down on Benavidez and Benavidez pops right back up. I wish this was a 5-rounder. Both men are still fresh as this one winds down. Benavidez lands another kick to the body. That could be the difference on the judges scorecards. HOV-MMA scores this contest 29-28 in favor of Joseph Benavidez.
