UFC legend makes case for Sean O’Malley vs. Jose Aldo title fight by referencing historic UFC 204 main event
Jason Silva-USA TODAY Sports

Jose Aldo could be getting a UFC bantamweight title shot against Sean O’Malley if all the pieces fall into place. UFC legend Chael Sonnen recently shared a YouTube video where he went into detail about a situation where Aldo might get his shot at the championship.

In the video, Sonnen gave the example of Michael Bisping vs. Dan Henderson back in 2016. Sonnen explained how UFC gave Henderson the title shot in his last contract fight. Sonnen stressed about how many old UFC fighters have made a comeback and surprised the MMA community with their performances.

There is a very possible chance that Jose Aldo goes right into a title shot. I can give you examples of Dan Henderson versus Michael Bisping. Dan Henderson’s last fight on his contract…and it was a world title fight. So, you will find times in history where an older guy came back and he did something very impressive. Bisping and Henderson fought each other at UFC 204 where ‘Hendo’ lost the bout via unanimous decision. However, as Sonnen said, Henderson was not the top fighter but was still given the opportunity in his last fight before retirement.

In the case of Aldo vs. O’Malley, things are already up to a good start. Sean O’Malley has already shown his interest in fighting the UFC legend. It would be interesting to see if the promotion decides to reward Jose Aldo with such an opportunity, especially, after his recent incredible performance at UFC 301.

Chael Sonnen claims Jose Aldo didn’t age like other all-time greats

Jose Aldo shocked everyone with his performance at UFC 301. The fighter came out of retirement and defeated Jonathan Martinez via unanimous decision. The ‘King of Rio’ looked incredibly good and sharp despite his age. This impressed a lot of fans and experts including Chael Sonnen.

Sonnen in his YouTube video talked about how age affects old fighters. The veteran talked about fighters losing, speed, cardio, power, etc but how it wasn’t the case with Jose Aldo.

The first thing to go is your speed. Is your timing, is your jaw, is your leg, is your ability to endure….So while all those things are supposed to go and they do go first, they didn't go for Jose. Chael Sonnen via his YouTube channel

Aldo has already mentioned that he is planning to talk with Dana White about a new contract with UFC. The fighter is not retiring anytime soon and is ready to fight for the bantamweight championship. Currently, there have been no updates regarding his contract however fans are expecting to see more from the legend of the sport.
