Michael Jordan and Denny Hamlin’s 23XI Racing has been revolution in the NASCAR Cup Series. With in just three years of it’s formation the team has became a regular contender fir race wins and has established themselves as a future championship contenders. They are now also the leaders in the garage when it comes to re-investing in the team and attracting new partners.

The team recently made another huge investment by finishing the works of their new headquarters, the Airspeed. While it is common to call the team facilities race shop in NASCAR, the 23XI team dew to marketing reason has refrained anyone from calling it that. Fox Sports Bob Pockrass revealed that any employee including Bubba Wallace and Tyler Reddick calling it a shot will get a “stonk eye or something.”

In a way to promote the culture of the company that where they work is more than a shop, the 23XI folks refer to their shop as Airspeed. So, if an employee calls it a shop, the employee gets the stink eye or something when the employee enters the shop. Bob Pockrass wrote on X.

The work on the facility is till going on despite the season getting started and the team starting their operations there. Currently the construction of a 120-room hotel and a 1200 square feet office space is being done at the Campus. When fully finished, Airspeed will be the standard for race shops in the NASCAR garage.

Denny Hamlin reveals why the shop is called Airspeed

23XI co-owner Denny Hamlin, while talking about the shop, gave details about the naming and braiding of it. The name is derived from him (Speed) and co-owner Jordan (Air) like they did with the team. They also don’t want this to be an ordinary shop and is confident that Airspeed is a name their race shop is worthy of.

Airspeed is just a combination [of words] very similar to 23XI — 23 is him, XI (11) is me; Airspeed is air [for] him, speed [for] me. We just feel like that is a good identity for that building. We're building fast cars. Anybody can call their building a shop, but we are pretty confident that this is ‘Airspeed' worthy. Denny Hamlin said.

The team hasn’t yet secured a win in 2024 season so far after starting to work from the new shop. They would be hoping it will come soon, as both Tyler Reddick and Bubba Wallace are in good form, and just needs the right car to win the race.
