As if Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s championship hopes didn’t take a big enough blow on the final lap at Talladega, where he was caught up in a 24-car melee, now it is official that the sport’s most popular driver will sit out the next two races with a concussion.
According to a Hendrick Motorsports press release the concussion was diagnosed late Wednesday. Earnhardt’s replacement driver will be Regan Smith who was let go from his ride at Furniture Row Racing after Talladega.
Luckily Earnhardt made it through the crash, but now his focus will have to look forward to the 2013 season.
