Danica Patrick is not one the 12 drivers in the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Championship, which begins with the Geico 400 at Chicagoland Speedway in Joliet, Ill. The 12 drivers are competing in what is essentially the playoffs of NASCAR. Danica Patrick did not come even close to making the cut. Although who would expect that in her rookie season. For her, the final 10 races are about finishing up her rookie year. And maybe beating out her boyfriend Ricky Stenhouse Jr. for Rookie of the Year. This week’s race at Chicagoland is her “Homecoming Game,” as Chicagoland Speedway is about 116 miles south and east of her hometown of Roscoe, Illinois. She will have plenty of friends and family in attendance.
