Denny Hamlin calls Stewart Friesen out for Nick Sanchez scuffle: ‘He’s in the wrong’

From Denny Hamlin’s seat, it’s on Friesen.

“I’m a Stewart Friesen fan, I like Stewart Friesen, I do,” Hamlin said on the newest episode of his podcast. “I think he’s in the wrong here, though. Just because I thought Sanchez had said a great point, and that was that ‘We crashed because I was there. Like, if I wasn’t then we don’t crash, but I’m there, Stewart.’

“So, I think Nicholas said what he needed to say which was ‘Hey, I was on the outside, I had got a run on the top.’ … But Nick had already established that he was beside Stewart, I thought. I mean, as a driver I’m thinking, ‘Well that’s clearly Stewart Friesen’s fault.’ But you don’t also know was he told Nick was coming with a huge run on the top, leave room. My guess is probably not but that’s just kind of the growing pains of a spotter, driver relationship.

“Anyway, I think that it was kind of a clashing of worlds there where Stewart probably thought, ‘Hey come on cut me a break here you’re only beside me by a couple of feet,’ and it was two feet. But, I mean, you can’t ask really the guy that went to the top to get a run to stop and check-up, so.”

This was a great weekend of racing. The Truck Series put on a show Saturday night. Complete with the fight afterward. Now the NASCAR national series head to COTA for a tripleheader weekend.
