Jeb Burton will race No. 22 throwback at Daytona in honor of father Ward Burton

In case you needed a Ward Burton throwback this week, Jeb Burton and Jordan Anderson Racing have you covered, don’t worry. Jeb is running the old No. 22 at Daytona for the NASCAR Xfinity Series race. Team owner Jordan Anderson will race Jeb’s usual No. 27 car.

Putting Anderson in the 27 and moving Jeb Burton to the 22 makes a ton of sense. You get to honor Ward while also ensuring that all three JAR cars make the race. If qualifying is rained out or Anderson performs poorly, he will still make the race since Jeb won in the 27-car earlier this year.

Thus, the car and Jeb have enough points this year to make it through regardless of how qualifying goes. Not to mention, this yellow and black throwback looks awesome.

This was a great side-by-side rendering of the two cars racing on the Daytona track together. When it comes to throwback schemes, this is one of the best as far as not having the true sponsor on board and recreating it with another organization. The number is what really matters, and the two-tone black and yellow. Just a classic look.

Jordan Anderson had fans scratching their heads when he said he was driving the 27-car. Then, Jeb played coy and acted as if that was news to him. Some fans were upset on Jeb’s behalf! All of that was worth it for the big reveal.

The only time Jeb Burton has performed better in the Xfinity Series up to this point in the season was during his season with Kaulig Racing in 2021. That year, he also won at Talladega. However, he had more top-5s and top-10 finishes.

However, given what Jordan Anderson Racing is and what they are planning on accomplishing this season, the results have been solid. A win at Talladega and four additional top-10 finishes and Burton sits 14th overall in points.

In that season with Kaulig, Burton finished 10th overall. This season, he has a chance to improve his best overall finish with a deep playoff run. Unfortunately for Burton, the Xfinity Series does not return to Talladega for the playoffs. However, he’ll have his chances at Kansas and Darlington, and other tracks.

Perhaps the secret to Jeb Burton’s season, he hasn’t finished outside of the top-20 since Sonoma. That includes a P10 finish at Watkins Glen, a style of track that doesn’t always benefit Burton’s skillset. Burton will have a great shot at winning Daytona in his dad’s old colors.
