Kevin Harvick breaks down the 'very unique' features of Texas Motor Speedway
Stephanie Amador / The Tennessean / USA TODAY NETWORK

Texas Motor Speedway has been a staple in the NASCAR calendar since the ’90s. However, it was reconfigured in 2017, but the track is still a favorite among fans and pilots. Now, Kevin Harvick , in his podcast, described the challenging characteristics of the track and how it is unique from its counterparts.

Kevin Harvick has three wins at the infamous Texas Speedway and is one of the most accomplished drivers at the oval. However, with the re-configuration, drivers have been critical of wide and bumpy turns at Texas and have attributed it to being closer to a street track rather than a special circuit.

On the contrary, the former Cup champion stated that the track at Texas is quite unique. The revamp that the track has gotten has made it more interesting and peculiar for drivers to race at, as it provides lots of overtaking opportunities due to its wide corners. Moreover, it is super banked aiding drivers to carry heaps of momentum through the corners. Thus, making it an ideal track for testing a driver’s capabilities due to its varied nature according to Harvick.

Very unique track though. You’ve got a really flat corner, they changed turns one and two, it’s really wide and really flag, they’re going to put the PJ1 down in the third groove like they normally have. Turns three and four they’re super banked, super bumpy. They ground the bump a little bit in three and four, but it’s still pretty bumpy. So, the way that you drive it is just completely different from one end to the other. Kevin Harvick said in his Happy Hour podcast.

Kevin Harvick claims Bubba Wallace to be a strong contender for win at Texas Motor Speedway

Bubba Wallace began the season with a top-five finish at Daytona, setting up a precedent for the following races. However, since then, the 23XI driver has been unable to extend his ambition and has yet to make an appearance on the podium. But given his past results on the mile-and-a-half-long track, Harvick has deemed Wallace to be a driver to look out for at Texas.

Harvick elaborated on his opinion that Texas and Kansas are two of the strongest tracks for the young racer. Moreover, 23XI has been on an upward trend recently and looks ever closer to breaching inside the top-three, and the No.23 racer is ever likely to score a podium, moreover a win at the special track.

I feel like Texas and Kansas are Bubba’s two strongest tracks, and I hope he’s in contention for the win. I agree with you on that. The cars are going to be strong this weekend. It’s always been a good racetrack for us. We haven’t raced here in the spring in a while. Kevin Harvick said in his podcast.

Wallace currently sits 12th in the standing, but with 18 races left in the season he might not get into the playoff without win like he did last season. The D4D graduate has set his sights on making the playoffs this year and breaching in beyond the Round of 12 and to do that he has to win a race.
