Dover-200-qualifying
Another big announcement down in Daytona Beach, Florida for preaseason testing was Austin Dillon will run the Las Vegas race on March 10th for James Finch Racing. Dillon, will pilot the No. 51 Chevy with funding from Tissot Watches. The Vegas race will the the second Cup race of the season for the youngster as he will compete in the season opening Daytona 500 for his grandpa Richard Childress at RCR in the No. 33 Honey Nut Cheerios Chevrolet. He was originally slated to run seven races in the No. 33 for the 2013 campaign and more than likely would move up full-time next season at his grandpa’s camp. Now, Dillon may have to cancel one of the seven races he was going to run for his grandpa’s team if he wants to keep rookie status next season. Due to rule, a rookie can run seven races previously before he enters a full-time gig. The announcement is somewhat of a shock since Finch announced Regan Smith and A.J. Allmendinger would share time in the No. 51 for the whole season. Bringing Dillon in means both will be without rides for the third race of the season. Dillon made two starts in the Cup Series last season at Kansas and Michigan. He’s currently taking part in the preseason testing this weekend down at Daytona International Speedway and he’s doing a really good job. His grandpa is bringing him up right and not rushing him into NASCAR’s top series. He won the 2011 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series championship and moved up to the NASCAR Nationwide Series last season. A contender for the title all season, he notched his first win of the season at Kentucky Speedway in June. He returned to the series for another run at a title this season and will look to win titles in both feeder series’ to Cup before making a run at a Cup title in likely 2014.
