Start ‘N’ Park Blog is taking a look back at the 2012 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver by driver. This recap will take a look at the driver’s stats, the season’s highlights, the season’s lowlights, what a quick look at next year. This installment takes a look back at David Ragan who finished in the 28th place in the final standings. 2012 Statistics: Points: 622 Position: 28th Preseason Pick: 27th Starts: 36 Poles: 0 Wins: 0 Top 5s: 1 Top 10s: 2 DNFs: 5 Earnings: $3,613,656 What Was Said Prior To The Season: “David Ragan gets the nod for the seat, but until we a see a contract I won’t believe it. Given his off season of having a ride, then forfeiting it for another ride, to losing both, then doing nothing, you can understand my skepticism. The plus to this move is he remains in the Ford camp, which means he hasn’t been completely blackballed by Jack Roush…yet. This team has fought the good fight the last couple of years, but Ragan doesn’t bring much to the table they didn’t have in Gilliland or Travis Kvapil or J.J. Yeley. Drivers who have shown promise, but not delivered on it. It’ll be a quiet year for Ragan and company for sure.” What Happened In 2012: The most unwanted driver of the last offseason landed with Front Row Motorsports and turned in another average season for him. He got a couple of top 10 finishes, 7th at the spring Talladega race and a 4th at the fall Talladega race, but beyond that it was finishes in the 20s for him. It was a quiet season for sure, that fourth place run was aided by a massive last lap crash, but the team and him can build on the results of this year for next year. On To 2013: As with his teammate David Gilliland, sponsorship might hold this team back form their potential. I just see another “meh” year of running in the 20s, getting some good finishes at restrictor plate races, and maybe getting a random good finish at another track.
