Watch: Kyle Larson spins out and crash hard onto wall at Darlington days after claiming he 'wants to be a good role model' for young racers

Hendrick Motorsports Kyle Larson came into Darlington with an iconic Terry Labonte No:5 car paint-scheme with the hopes of repeating his impressive 0.001 second win at Kansas. But his day ended in a dissipating P34, following a late race crash that saw him hit the wall hard the car getting significant damages.

With 40 laps left in the race, Kyle Larson was running at P7 and was fast enough to end the race at least inside the top-5 before the wreck. He spun out entering turn-3 following a flat tire and slammed hard onto the outside the wall. Smoke was coming out of the car due to the issue with the tier and NASCAR cautioned the race after incident.

The incident was really disappointing considering he had the best throwback paints scheme of the weekend that honoured the legends of the sport. But despite the frustrating moment, Larson showed composure and admitted on his post-race interview that it was his mistake.

I hate that my mistake, not even trying hard at all, cost us a race. Really frustrated at myself right now but good car today. I was running a really good race till that point. Kyle Larson said.

It shows the class and attitude the young racers should learn from Kyle Larson. Even if you are the best driver on the grid, mistakes can happen, admitting those misshapes and learning from it is what makes some one greater. Larson recently while talking about his racing ventures including 2024 Indy 500 claimed that he wants to be a good role model for young racer.

I don’t know what impact I want to have on young racers. I just want them to look at me as a good role model for the sport of racing, really, because I do so much within NASCAR as well as outside of NASCAR. Kyle Larson said.

Kyle Larson explains how he ended up on the wall

Explaining what went wrong at turn-3, Kyle Larson pointed out that he was struggling in the long-run and was getting lose, so he let Willaim Byron who was running behind him ahead. Then as the race went got to turn-3, his attempt to stay wide from his teammate resulted in flat tier and the crash.

I was struggling and I got really loose into that long run and William (Byron) caught me. I was just letting him by in (turns) 1 and 2, and I just kind out there. I was trying to be really wide away from him and then I just stayed wide too long and I got hung in the marble and hit the wall. Kyle Larson said.

While it’s a disappointing result, the racer would be over it pretty soon as he got the next weeks race to focus on. He has already won two races so far this season and looking to win a couple more races before the playoff, to place himself in a good spot to chase the championship.
