Jason Kidd was drafted by the Dallas Mavericks as the No. 2 overall pick 15 years ago today, taken after Glenn Robinson and before Grant Hill. Donyell Marshall and Juwan Howard finished out the top five picks. Over the course of history, the Mavericks ended up with four of the top 10 picks that year with Kidd, Howard, Eric Montross (No. 9) and Eddie Jones (No. 10).
Kidd completed a nice run of first-round picks for the woeful Mavericks with Jamal Mashburn (No. 4, 1993) and Jim Jackson (No. 4, 1992) giving Dallas a potent lineup, at least for one season. The next draft? Well, Cherokee Parks.
The Dallas Mavericks have had only two other No. 2 overall selections play for them in their history. Their names stumped the panel up here for a few minutes. I'll give it a little later if no one comes up with them.
