Roy Hibbert is coming off a season in which he became a first-time NBA All-Star, and helped lead the Indiana Pacers to the second round of the NBA Playoffs. He’s also a big factor in the Pacers winning back the Indiana fans.

He’s one of the more popular athletes in Indiana, and has improved each year with the Pacers. With so few quality centers in the NBA, there’s no way the Pacers can let the restricted free agent Hibbert walk.

Hibbert was on WNDE in Indianapolis with Query and Schultz today. When asked if he’d be back with the Pacers, the big man responded:

It has been weighing on me. First and foremost I do love Indiana. They are a team that has worked with me since I was a rookie. They really worked to develop me, but at the same time I have to do what is best for myself and my family and talk things through with my agent and see what’s best for us.

I would love to return to the Pacers. From what my agent is telling me it’s just a matter of them stepping up and getting the deal done. I can’t speak too much about it, but I know as the days are getting closer to July 1st I will be thinking what is best for my family and myself.

There’s no way the Pacers will let him go. They have plenty of money under the cap to match any deal Hibbert would be offered.

And he will get some big-time offers from other teams, but he wants to stay in Indiana, and the Pacers want him to stay in Indiana. A deal will get done.
