Unlike the Western Conference, in which the 1st round went according to form, the Eastern Conference began with a huge upset. The Philadelphia 76ers became just the fifth #8 seed in NBA history to knock off the #1 seed, when they beat the Chicago Bulls in 6 games. Philly caught an enormous break when the Bulls leader Derrick Rose was lost for the series late in game 1 due to a torn ACL. The Sixers were a 9-1 underdog in the series going in, but those odds were slashed when Rose went down. The Bulls were also without their emotional leader Joakim Noah for most of the series when he went down in game 3 with a severely sprained left ankle. Now in the second round, the 76ers are taking on the Boston Celtics who won a tough 6 game series, downing the Atlanta Hawks. The Sixers were once again a substantial underdog coming into the series, though this time just about 2-1. The series opened up in Boston and to many people’s surprise, Philly was able to come away with a split in the first 2 games.
