2020 NBA 1st-Round Pick Is Still A Free Agent
USA TODAY Sports

R.J. Hampton is coming off a season where he played in 47 games for the Orlando Magic and Detroit Pistons.

The 22-year-old averaged 6.4 points, 1.9 rebounds and 1.1 assists per contest while shooting 43.0% from the field and 35.3% from the three-point range.

Additionally, Hampton played in the G League and averaged 22.6 points, 4.3 rebounds and 1.9 assists per contest while shooting 46.3% from the field and 28.1% from the three-point range in eight regular season games (he also appeared in two G League Showcase Cup games).

In June, Hampton was waived by the Pistons, and he still remains a free agent on August 8.

In addition to the Pistons and Magic, Hampton has also played for the Denver Nuggets.

He has career averages of 7.1 points, 2.8 rebounds and 1.8 assists per contest while shooting 41.0% from the field and 34.2% from the three-point range in 162 regular season games.

Coming out of high school (in 2019), Hampton was ranked as the fifth-best player in the country by ESPN.

Instead of going to college for one year, he played one season professionally in the NBL (Australia).

Since Hampton is still so young and was seen as a player with significant potential, he could be an excellent addition to many teams.

A young team looking to develop players or a contender needing depth for their bench would make sense.

At this point, Hampton would likely be able to be signed for the veteran's minimum, which means anyone could sign him.
