The Sacramento Kings enter the offseason after losing to the New Orleans Pelicans in the Play-In Tournament. The Kings should be among the teams in the trade market.
Sacramento finished as the third seed in the Western Conference in 2023 but failed to make the playoffs this season. With the West only getting more competitive, the Kings will need to be active in the offseason to upgrade their roster.
Their star duo is in place with De’Aaron Fox and Domantas Sabonis. This season, Fox averaged 26.6 points, 4.6 rebounds, 5.6 assists, and two steals per game while shooting 46.5 percent from the field and 36.9 percent from three. His points, rebounds, and steals per game were all a career-high.
Sabonis also had a great season, averaging 19.4 points, 13.7 rebounds, and 8.2 assists per game. He shot 59.4 percent from the floor and 37.9 percent from deep. The 28-year-old’s rebound and assist numbers were a career-high.
The other big piece to Sacramento’s core is Keegan Murray. Murray has played well in his first two seasons as a two-way forward. The 23-year-old has the potential to become a star on both ends of the floor. His current production has him as a high-end starter for Sacramento. Murray’s next step in development is to become a consistent player on both ends of the floor.
The Kings have a great chance to improve in the offseason with their assets. With that said, let’s move on to three early Sacramento trade targets in the 2024 NBA offseason.
Kings acquire Jonathan Isaac
Sacramento has a very talented offense but needs to improve on the defensive end of the floor. Jonathan Isaac would be a great target for their roster as he is an elite defensive forward.
The 26-year-old averaged 6.8 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 1.2 blocks per game. Isaac shot 51 percent from the field and 37.5 percent from behind the arc.
Isaac’s defense and solid three-point shooting would fit well in Mike Brown’s rotation. He could defend all five positions, instantly becoming Sacramento’s best defender. Isaac would be a fantastic fit for a team that needs more size and defense.
Alex Caruso
Another defensive player that the Kings could pursue is Alex Caruso. Caruso is one of the best point-of-attack defenders in the league and a solid offensive player.
This season, the 30-year-old guard averaged 10.1 points, 3.8 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 1.7 steals, and a block per game. He shot 46.8 percent from the floor and 40.8 percent from distance. Caruso’s defense and high-percentage shooting from three would make him a perfect fit next to Fox in the backcourt.
Mikal Bridges
Mikal Bridges is a proven two-way forward who should be the top trade target for the Kings. Bridges is a near All-Star caliber wing who averaged 19.6 points, 4.5 rebounds, 3.6 assists, and a steal per game. The 27-year-old shot 43.6 percent from the floor and 37.2 percent from three-point range.
He is another elite defender who can guard the opposing team’s best guards or forwards. Bridges would excel alongside Fox, Sabonis, and Murray on both sides of the floor.
Bridges is also on a reasonable contract, earning $23.3 million next season. He would be an upgrade over Harrison Barnes, who currently plays in this role. His timeline would also fit well with Fox, Sabonis, and Murray.
The Kings are in a solid position heading into the offseason. They have a quality core and the contracts to make a trade to improve their roster. Isaac, Caruso, and Bridges should be on the Kings trade target list.
