I will not pretend to be a stat guru, but there are some numbers out there that are much more valuable than others in the basketball statistical world. Adjusted plus minus numbers are among those important stats, because they give you a good idea of a player's net production on the court. Of course, no number can accurately point to the true value of a player to a team (other than his salary, I guess), but APM is right there at the top in terms of value in Statland. While I've been up to my chin in work, one of the diehards over at Blog-a-Bull posted this gem which lists the APM's and other useful stats of the current Bulls. I highly recommend taking a look, as it reveals some interesting insights, such as the discrepancy in value between Ben Gordon and John Salmons, as well as Brad Miller's stellar efficiency.(Side Note: I apologize for the long hiatus in between posts. The power forward fantasy preview should be up soon, and I will try to come up with more posts to keep you busy in the near future)

Without the NBA Age Minimum, Is Derrick Rose a Cheater?

by Tom ZillerFiled under: Bulls, Grizzlies, NBA DraftI don't aim to defend the practice of cheating on your SAT, as Bulls star Derrick Rose is alleged to have done prior to enrolling at the University of Memphis in 2007. Even at age 17, Rose should know better. His brother Reggie Rose should have known better. Any other advisers potentially involved in the alleged fake-out should...

So What Exactly Are We Supposed To Expect From The 2009-2010 Chicago Bulls?

This year’s Bulls squad will be an interesting team.  Clearly they are waiting to make a splash in 2010 with all the money they have saved up, meaning that this season should probably be viewed as a rebuilding year.  The climactic end to last season and the emergence of Derrick Rose as a player on [...]

Memphis Vacates Prestige: Calipari, Rose Scandal Generates Eternal Shame

More troubling, in the NCAA are scandals. It normally results in coaches providing unlawful benefits that manipulate an appealing superstar to develop and assimilate spotlight with one of the premier programs, it normally correlates to coaches making illegal phone calls to recruit athletes, and it normally involves coaches tempering unjustly to obtain talented prospects. Flirting...

Derrick Rose is the future (Dime #50)

Earlier this summer, I went to Chicago for our Dime #50 cover shoot with Derrick Rose. Going in, we’d decided not to waste anyone’s time doing a generic studio shoot with Derrick wearing a Bulls uniform that could’ve been done anywhere, by anyone. Authenticity was the objective. So we went back to the roots: two [...]

NCAA let Rose play, so why does Memphis have to pay?

It is not uncommon for history to be altered after it is written. Pluto once was considered a planet but now is not. Harry Truman left office with an approval rating in the low 20s but eventually became the model of the modern Democrat. Jim Rice was not deemed worthy of baseball's Hall of Fame for 14 years, and then he was. Villanova in 1971, UCLA in 1980 and Ohio State in 1999...

Michael O’Brien of the Chicago Sun-Times reports: Bulls guard Derrick Rose’s college career at Memphis officially was erased from the record books Thursday. The NCAA Committee on Infractions concluded that a player on the 2007-08 team was ineligible to compete because of an invalidated SAT score. According to the NCAA, the athlete played for the [...]

Rose's Memphis punished by NCAA

School stripped of record and money because of ruling Chicago Bulls guard didn't take SAT exam himself Derrick Rose's college team at Memphis must vacate its record 38-victory season because of the Bulls point guard's evident role while competing as an academically ineligible college player.

Memphis Mess Should’t Hurt Derrick Rose

Admittedly this is not going to be a good week for Derrick Rose, with word that the University of Memphis will surrender its Final Four season. Because of improprieties from Rose’s SATs and travel benefits given to his brother, Rose will be in the spotlight for the wrong reasons. However that’s not going to change [...] Related posts:Derrick Rose Has Skills If you can see this...

Derrick Rose Cheated, But Will Never Pay The Price

Derrick Rose doesn’t have to play by the rules. The former University of Memphis point guard never took the Scholastic Aptitude Test, instead having a friend sweat through the exam under Rose’s name. The results of the SAT were then sent to the NCAA clearinghouse and the qualifying score resulted in Rose being admitted to Memphis. From there, the talented freshman helped...
