TEAMS: New York Knicks
PLAYERS: Eddy Curry
Jones on the NBA posted his thoughts on a discussion that originally began over at True Hoop. Can Eddy Curry become a solid rebounder? Those saying he can feel improved technique and a greater willingness to attack the boards are all that are standing in his way. Others say he'll never mature into a rebounding force becuase he doesn't possess a good understanding of vector analysis or "analyzing the angle where the ball should be heading following a rebound." There may be...

some guys just don't have it. dwight howard talked about it in a SI article that some people have the coordination and leaping ability to do well. He sited Curry and Blount as the 7 foot failures.

I have just recently purchased the NBA package and have been watching every Knicks game for about a month. All year I have defended Eddy Curry in regards to his horrid rebounding and defense. Now that I watch every game, I have grown to hate him. He is a dominating presence in the paint. His offensive game has improved by leaps and bounds since last year. He scores at will when he gets the ball within 5 feet. The problem on defense and with his rebounding has nothing to do with skill. He is bigger and stronger than everyone else and should have no problem on either end. His conditioning was an issue last year, but he is in pretty good shape at this point. His problem is effort. There is really no excuse for his lack of effort. Last night in Boston he was disgraceful. The problem is magnified with David Lee being out and his protection being a much less aggressive Channing Frye. Everything being equal, he is only 24 years old and will get better. If he went on the trade block, the Knicks would have plenty of suitors. Just goes to show how important centers are to NBA teams.

He is fat. He is lazy. Being fat may make him lazy, meaning he doesn't have the energy to crash the boards, but whether the chicken or the egg came first, these are the reasons that he is atrocious on the boards, and they are also the reasons why he disappears down the stretch of EVERY game. He could be a dominant player if he was in shape and motivated, unfortunately he's got a coach that's letting him eat himself into an early grave. He's Oliver Miller with a little more talent, and less self-control.

It's weird, Eddy Curry has the same body as a 33-year-old Shaq. For those of you who may have forgotten, the Diesel came into the league as a thin, yet strong guy. It wasn't until about 6 years in the league that Shaq became bloated.

Shaq has never been as fat as Curry is now. He's seriously approaching Oliver Miller status. I went to a Knicks game a couple of months ago, and another this week, I swear he's put on 20 pounds DURING the season. How is that even possible? He's a disgrace.

Is it possible that the increased weight makes Curry more of an offensive threat, hard to defend, but less of an effective rebounder?
