MVN:
It became official on Wednesday, September the 23rd, that the Charlotte Bobcats and free agent Point Guard Raymond Felton reached a 1 year, $5.5 million dollar deal. After the conversations for a long term extension failed, both the Bobcats and Felton agreed to a franchise tag kind of deal, just like the New York Knicks did with David Lee and Nate Robinson, whose deals are becoming official this week.
Felton was the starter for the entire last season and should maintain his job for the upcoming one which means that youngster prospect DJ Augustine will come off the bench for another year.
The Bobcats just came kind of close of the playoffs missing it by only four games what proves that this nucleus is talented however it's clear and well understood that the team is for sale which is why the franchise is not making any long term deals, reason why Felton didn't get his extension, and why there's so much pressure from the owner for them to make the playoffs, so that anybody steps up and decide to buy the team.
Felton is the runner of that team, understands the system ran by Larry Brown and is an important part of a pretty good offense in Carolina. With his return, Charlotte gets more time to develop Augustine, so when he does have to step up for that starting job, he's ready which is not the case yet, and Felton gets a chance to prove himself with a team that will get some attention and upgrade his value on the market for the super free agency summer of 2010.
