Eight weeks have come and gone and Andrew Bynum is nowhere near being close to returning to the Lakers. The latest report has him slotted to be back by the first round of the play-offs, but even that sounds iffy at best. The problem Andrew is having is his knee is swelling up after workouts. This is typical during the early rehabilitation of any injury. The problem is, Andrew's not progressing at the rate he would need to, to get back on the court anytime soon. Andrew can run on those anti-gravity treadmills all he wants, but until he can get on the court on a consistent basis, he'll continue to be a month away. He needs at least 2-3 weeks just to get into shape, and if he cannot run on consecutive days, how can that happen? My feeling on this is that Andrew might not be back this year. His value to the future of the Lakers is so strong, that it makes no sense to take a risk that might further injure his knee.

I agree. I don't believe that he will be back anytime soon. I think that the organization is being optimistic by saying that he will be back by the playoffs. Rehabilitation takes more time for some than others depending on the injury. We definitely need him now since every game from here on is crucial. We have already lost Gasol and Ariza. Hopefully, we can manage without him because Bynum is definitely an important part in the sucess of the Lakers.

    Playoffs at best. At best.

He'll play. It's playoffs - you play. They'll just drain the knee after every game. It's not the healthiest thing to do, but there's a lot of fan pressure and organizational pressure in the playoffs, especially for a title contender.

After the season, he'll get surgery and heal, and maybe miss a few games. But I almost guarantee that Bynum will be on the bench in uniform, not in a suit, if the Lakers head to the playoffs.

I'm hoping that he's back, but I don't think the Lakers will take any chances, nor should they.
