Great post from the blog, Deuce of Davenport. "Michigan alum and current Phoenix Sun Jalen Rose bought a billboard to honor the Fab Five the season after their 15-year anniversary." Because of Chris Webber's indiscretions, the Fab Five's banners had to be taken down at the school. "Rose had the billboard placed in Detroit near the area where he and Webber grew up." Cool article, includes picture of billboard.

  • As I was driving down the Lodge to Tigers' games this past season, I noticed this billboard and wondered what company would be dumb enough to associate themselves with one of the worst cases of NCAA rules violations ever. Then I read the Free Press article. Jalen Rose has shown what an arrogant, immature punk he still is. Thank you, Jalen. You and your teammates, for bringing discredit and dishonor to Michigan's basketball program. Your teammates were accused, but never proven guilty? Come on. I suppose you think OJ is innocent, too. Webber admitted to taking money, and only reason he isn't in jail for perjury and tax evasion is that the star witness died before he could testify. Yes, the program had issues before Steve Fisher and the Five hit town, and yes, I sat in Crisler Arena for every home game of the Fab Five marveling at their talent. But in the wake of one of the largest scandels in NCAA history, I find it inappropriate, and frankly classless, to trumpet this team with a billboard. A team, btw, that never won so much as a Big Ten title. Jalen, if you want to remember you teammates, buy them each a Rolex. But don't rub our noses in your mess.

  • Wow - at least you take some credit for benefiting from the five five. Make no mistake, A LOT people made money from Fab Five era including your alma mater. So unless they're giving back the money, you shouldn't be throwing any stones. In life you have to take the good with the bad, so if you were wearing your black socks up to your knees and routing in the stands, be a man and recognize that people make mistakes. In most issues, there has to be a scapegoat and the Fab Five were it. Should there banner be taken down as if they didn't make history? If jalen wants to put a banner up, he should because they deserve it. Let's not forget that they they also took the "March Madness" to another level 15 years ago. Let's be clear..there are A LOT of banners that hang from rafters of deceit, rape, drugs, lies, and money laudering. They just weren't caught. I find you classless that you would equate this situation with OJ, but I wouldn't expect less from a condescending idiot.

  • I feel like JMG hit the proverbial nail squarely on the head! There is alleged monetary issues, but when it comes down to it, accepted or not, those Benjamin Franklin's did nto put any points on the board, hit any OT game winners, catch any 'in your face" alley oops, exemplify the passion and flair that the Fab 5 and in-turn the Wolverine team did.
A wolverine fan, and Alum through and through, I feel that last year's NBA draft was a bigger disgrace to the Wolverine faithful., in that they were featured almost more prominently than any other team. Unfortunately, they were glamorized as "punks" by Greg Oden and Michael Conley, Jr. time after time in their draft night highlight reels. 3 N.I.T. runs after lackluster, mediocre runs at best vs. 2 life-changing and game changing seasons of boasts, brags, WINS, heart-breaking losses, long shorts, black shoes and socks. pardon me Mr. ExFan, but that just does not compete!
