It took 87 games for Ronnie Price to prove his worth to Jazz coach Jerry Sloan, nearly leading the team back from a 22-point second half deficit to stun the Lakers in Monday's Game 5 of their first-round playoff series.    With that comeback falling short, however, Price heads into the off-season as a free agent, along with as many as eight of his teammates. As hard as playing time has been to come by behind Deron Williams, Price expressed a desire to stay with the Jazz.    "I want to be here. I like the guys, I like the coaches," Price said. "If this was a losing organization, then we would be talking about something else, but it's not.     "We win here. We've got a great group of guys here. We've got a great coaching staff here. We've got great management here. We've got a great organization here.    "Any player in the NBA would want to be a part of this organization, so I would be silly sitting here acting like I didn't want to be here. Of course, I want to be here. Of course,...

Will the Jazz trade Carlos Boozer?

With regard to Carlos Boozer’s future in Utah, Johnny Ludden of Yahoo Sports writes that the Utah Jazz “are expected to explore trading him and devote their resources to keeping Paul Millsap.” Boozer angered franchise officials and teammates alike early in the season, when he spoke openly of wanting to test his free agency this summer. [...]

Lakers Squander a Big Lead Again, but Hold on to Silence Jazz, Win Series 4-1

Kobe Bryant scored 31 points, passed for four assists and had four steals as the L.A. Lakers defeated the Utah Jazz 107-96 to win their first round series four games to one. Bryant averaged 27.4 ppg, 5.6 apg, 5.0 rpg and 2.4 spg versus the Jazz while shooting .466 from the field, .353 from three point range and .897 from the free throw line; his field goal...

Belated Recap: Short-handed Suns Fall to Jazz (108-86)

Things that are more pleasant for a Suns fan than watching last night's game against the Utah Jazz: Listening to half-inch fingernails scrape slowly across a blackboard Finding a half-eaten worm in your salad Visiting your mother-in-law Watching the Spurs play the Pistons again and again ...

Will The Real Mrs. Fisher Please Stand Up?

Oooh wee. Beyoncé Knowles and Idris Elba may have the #1 movie in America with Obessesed but the entire script seems to be a reality for L.A. Lakers guard Derek Fisher. For those worried about plot spoilers, eh, the movie was as predictable as their ongoing series with the Utah Jazz. Basically “devil white woman” imagines [...]

Locker clean-out, Part 2

Mehmet Okur offered an update on his father, Abdullah, who was hospitalized last November in critical condition. Okur left the Jazz on a five-game Eastern Conference trip to fly to Turkey and attend to his father.    "He's doing better," Okur said. "He's getting rehab right now, but the way he is right now, it's kind of ups and downs. A couple days he feels good, one day...

Lakers Advance to Second Round, Spank Jazz 107-96

Before Monday night’s game between the Utah Jazz and Los Angeles Lakers, site editor Jeff Sack and I were discussing what lineup tweaking the Lakers should do if they expect to go to the NBA Finals; he and I came to the conclusion that Andrew Bynum should come off the bench and that Lamar Odom [...]

Locker clean-out, Part 3

Not suggesting it was the case, but I asked Jerry Sloan if he thought there were any locker-room divisions that contributed to the Jazz's demise.    "I thought they were a pretty good group of guys," Sloan said. "When I get on an airplane . . . people will come back and tell me this is the best group of guys they've ever had on the plane.    "Those are things that as...

Lakers-Jazz Game 3: Jazz Trust Selves, Lakers Don’t in Game 3 Jazz Win

At any level of competition, basketball is all about trust. How well do you trust yourself, your teammates, your system? Despite having superior talent, the Los Angeles Lakers didn’t trust their offense, while the Utah Jazz trusted their bench and their two main superstars. That difference in belief was the reason behind Utah’s 88-86 game three victory over Los Angeles.

Playoff Excitement Part 1 Winning in the West

With the first round of the playoffs slowly crawling towards the end, and so much excitement developing around the league, I want to take some time out side of the Blazer Box and take a quick look at the two conferences and what they have brought us this playoff season. We’ll start with the West… Los Angeles Lakers versus Utah Jazz:  It was no question as to which of these...
