dallasnews.com:
The agent for Shawne Williams says there have been discussions with the Mavericks about buying out the forward's contract and that they are willing to take less money than the $2.4-million that he is due this season.
Just a wild guess, but you have to figure the big sticking point is: how much less.
Happy Walters is Williams' agent and he said he's not sure how long this thing could drag out.
"There have been some discussions,'' he said. "We're just trying to do what's best for the Mavs and for Shawne. There's been some talk about (the right dollar figure) and we're just trying to find the right solution.''
The options appear to be few for both sides. Either they reach a buyout or Williams is stuck on the end of the roster. Not only do the Mavericks not want Williams around the team, he doesn't want to be around it, either, Walters said.
Walters added that Williams has done nothing "to merit a suspension.''
The Mavericks have 16 guaranteed contracts and can keep a maximum of 15 on the final roster.

The value of second-chance points
The Mavericks have been a decent offensive rebounding team in the past and, by extension, they have been OK at scoring second-chance points.
This year, they have a chance to be really good at it with Drew Gooden and Kris Humphries going after the offensive misfires.
Says Humphries: "Over my career, I've been a guy who has gotten a lot of offensive rebounds and so has he...
