NBA Says, "Oops, Sorry Spurs!"

I know we've all heard this news by now. And the reply from the Spurs is a big, fat, "Thanks! We feel much better knowing you feel that way." But it's not so much that I want to talk about the missed call as I want to discuss: WHAT THE HECK WAS JOEY CRAWFORD DOING WITHIN 100 YARDS OF THE SPURS after the fiasco with Tim Duncan that got him suspended last year? Who made that decision? And knowing Crawford and his volatile nature, why would you even tempt him? Now all that's left to do is bring back Donaghy.

Yeah that was a pretty bad call to put him on that game. Especially with all that is going on with Donaghy right now.
Whether Stern wants to admit it or not - any appearance of impropriety could be disastirous to the integrity of the game. I don't want basketball to become the next baseball.
We don't need anymore scandal!

You hit the nail on the head, GSWgirl - any appearance of impropriety.

I believe Crawford was at one of the Spurs/Suns games too, earlier in the Playoffs...both times I said exactly what you said in this article "what the heck is HE doing here!?"

The guy needs to be banned from the NBA!

Why is that WE understand this, but the NBA doesn't seem to? It just seems like common sense.

I know right? And the NBA still have the nerve to say that he is considered one of the "greatest refs in all of sports" ....honestly?

Yeah! he was the ref. that challanged tim duncan to a fight and then got suspended. The NBA comissioner should of looked at this before the game.

You know when someone steps on your toe really hard and they're like, sorry sorry sorry - but all you really wanna do is punch them.
I bet thats how the Spurs feel right now.

Towards Crawford or the entire NBA?

I'm sure you're right though, either way.

Depends on if you subscribe to the Celts/Lakers conspiracy, I guess.
If not you might just take it as him being crappy at his job.

I am dissappointed with the Spurs especially Pop for saying that it should not have been a foul. Come on ... fight for your team. If they had called it the game may have tied up and gone into overtime. You are the defending chanps, trying to repeat for the first time and you just give up like that. The refs had to be blind not to see that foul. Stuff like that always makes me wonder about this league. Is it as Rasheed Wallace said all about entertainment and not about basketball?

Yeah, I honestly just think they were taking the high road. Especially knowing that they could be seeing Crawford again down the road. If the NBA hasn't done anything about it so far, what's to say Crawford doesn't have several Spurs games next year? Obviously, my outrage would have me pulling a Rasheed. But I don't think - for one minute - they gave up. And, sure it's entertainment.

what does it matter though? they werent going to replay the play so at that point.

Nellie would have gone on a fabulous tirade & at least gotten ejected.

True, true.

yeah thats for sure!!!

OOPS SORRY!!!LOL... I wonder if they payed for there plane ticket back to Sanantonio........

'Course not! The apology was all they were willing to ante up for.

Apparently we can all "look forward" to Joey refereeing one of the Finals games too. Careful, don't start jumping with joy all at once people. ;)

Love your humor, Brit. But isn't that just NUTS! On the other hand, I guess humor is really the only way to deal with it.

Definitely!

Doesnt matter over 80% of the refs are on the take but even mighty stern has not disciplined them in any way. The L is about putting butts n the arenas and making that $$$. The L wants a Laker/Celtic final matchup and they will do what is necessary to make it happen. Trust me Im n Vegas and I' ve been tracking it all season....

Don't whet my conspiracists appetite, Bob.

In my opinion, Joey Crawford and Dick Bavetta are two of the most crooked officials in any professional sport. Hopefully the recent turmoil over NBA officials will force the league to make much needed changes.

Just caught that you were a late arrival, Kevin. But I have to agree. I was unsure about Bavetta until all of this stuff started coming out in the Donaghy case. It's sickening to have to face. I commented on a couple of other posts (about the league dictating games), that it's one of those things that you know, but don't want to admit you know.
