Mark Rawden, and his associates over at Examiner.com (http://www.examiner.com), are running their own NBA Season Preview for each team in the NBA prior to the beginning of the regular season. Here's a look at the the 2009-10 Chicago Bulls, and a Q&A with Examiner Chris Cason: (http://www.examiner.com/x-10630-Boston-Celtics-Examiner~y2009m9d30-QA-on-the-Cs-with-Bulls-Examiner-Chris-Cason) 1) What do you feel is the mindset of this team going into this season?Despite a few elephants in the room, the mindset is very positive, and everyone seems to be ready to challenge for a championship. Rondo is excited, same with Pierce. However, those elephants (KG’s health and Ray Allen’s expiring contract) are lurking and everyone is simply trying to ignore them. You get the feeling that the team is back in 2007 mode with a few new players and team-wide sense of urgency, excitement, and anxiety. That collection of emotions led to a title that season, and Doc’s crew is obviously hoping for the same in 2009.2) Your thoughts about the Rondo trade rumors this summer. What do you feel is his value to this team and if they even considered trading him, do you think they would get anywhere near equal value? They were understandable, as Rondo still hasn’t developed anything resembling a reliable jumper, and rumors swirled about his “coachability.” I’m not sure if the latter is true, but the former certainly is. He had an unbelievable series against Chicago in the playoffs, but Orlando simply sat back and watched him clank jumpers. He needs to significantly upgrade his jumper this year or the trade rumors will begin again next summer (or possibly earlier) and Danny Ainge may not deny them when they do. He’ll probably have to go in a package deal for salary purposes, or he’ll have to be traded for a promising rookie and draft picks. Equal value is possible, but doubtful.3) The team has added depth, are one year removed from an NBA title, didn't have KG for the latter part of last season and almost made it to the Conference Finals, with a healthy KG, this team can get back to the Finals, what are your thoughts on most experts ranking them third behind Orlando and Cleveland? It’s insulting, but not surprising. “Experts” like to come to a collective decision and run with it. Everyone seems to think that Orlando added the Vince Carter of 2002, not 2009, and everyone seems to think that KG is shot and Ray Allen has nothing left in the tank ,thanks to his sporadic performance in the playoffs last year. Of course, they’ve forgotten about the additions of Sheed and Marquis Daniels, plus the hunger Ray is going to have since this is a contract year for him and the Celtics’ excellent depth will allow Doc to rest the Big Three more down the stretch. Boston is definitely better than Orlando (Boston took the Magic to seven games last year without KG or Leon Powe, and they now have KG, Sheed, and Daniels while the Magic are essentially the same) and probably even with Cleveland. The Cavs are a wildcard because of Shaq – I don’t know how he’ll fit in. If his game collides with LeBoron’s, then Boston has nothing to worry about.4) The team's primary core are getting up there in mileage, Ray Allen will be a free agent, Paul Pierce can opt out, do you see any scenario where the Big Three- if they get knocked out of any round before the Finals this year- are not on this roster next season? To read the rest of Mark's Q&A, click here. Only LeBron has been better than Paul Pierce

I have waxed poetic about Paul Pierce before.  I do it a lot.  In my opinion, Paul Pierce is one of the most underrated superstars of our time.  Well, maybe that's changing a little.  Or... maybe it's only the people who really know basketball who understand how great he has been.  Today, Ball Don't Lie ranked Paul Pierce the second best small forward of...

"Marquis looked good, Rasheed looked good"

Paul Pierce says so.“It is like first day of school," said Pierce. "You’re excited. You got your new lunch pail, new clothes, showing off. It’s the same thing. You come out here you got new teammates you’re excited about to get back on the court and show it off. It was good to see these guys fit in real well. Marquis (Daniels) looked...

It’s the Allen & Allen show at shooting guard for the Boston Celtics

The Boston Celtics are set up well at shooting guard for this season. 34-year old Ray Allen is back this season to start for the Celtics. He played in 79 games for the Celtics last season and he averaged 36.4 minutes, 18.2 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game. Allen has [...]

"The best first days of camp that I can remember"

That's what Paul Pierce says. "These first two days have been the best first days of camp that I can remember."I know... I know... it's only been 2 days.  The ultimate goal is 9 months away.  But this is good stuff.  At least we're not prancing around with baseball masks on our heads. For those of you still worried about KG's knee... he went through the...

Pierce is loving camp

It must've been one helluva long offseason, because, after just two days, this is the best first two days of camp ever for Paul Pierce: (http://twitter.com/celtics/status/4503329509)Pierce on team depth: "These first two days have been the best first days of camp that I can remember."Not sure if he's ever said this before (I'm guessing he did two years ago...

Help Us Help Local Schools

Why let Ray Allen, Paul Pierce, Bill Walker and the Celtics have all the fun?  Here's a chance to give to some school kids in Massachusetts.  I'll let Tom Ziller explain: SB Nation as a whole as entered the DonorsChoose.org Social Media Challenge, in which SBN competes against various other networks in a fundraising effort for schools around the nation. ... And then there's The BEAST!

Lost amid the gushing about Rondo, worries about KG's knee, scrutinizing of Marquis Daniels and Rasheed Wallace, agonizing over Tony Allen and general giddiness of an overall loaded team... is what we have in Kendrick Perkins. But Rasheed Wallace is finding out.  In this video posted by the Celtics, Sheed gushes about how Perk was taught defense the right way... and it shows...

Doc: "Scal and Ray Are Pretty Stiff"

Don't worry, that quote has nothing to do with injuries. That's Doc talking about Scal and Ray's dancing abilities. So which player has the best chance to land a spot on "Dancing with the Stars?"“Oh, it’s me by far,” Glen Davis told the Herald. “I am very versatile - ballet, salsa, swing dance. I can do it all.”“I would wholeheartedly agree with...

Orlando Poodles Bark Back at Paul Pierce and the Boston Celtics

Practice hasn't even officially started yet and the Orlando Magic are already feeling disrespected. Even though the Magic are the defending Eastern Conference champions, it seems nobody is picking them to return to the Finals this year.In fact, it was during their Finals matchup with the Lakers when Boston Celtics star Paul Pierce tweeted to his followers, "Looked like a...

"I think I'm probably one of the smartest point guards in the league"

That's what Rajon Rondo said when he was asked about his strengths.  Of course, I did the classic media thing and pulled one 5 second quote out of a 6:25 interview and ran with it.But I like it.  I think Rondo knows what he's good at.  He knows he's fast and he knows he can read defenses better than most.  It's just one of the answers he gave in this long interview...

Rebuilding 101: Alchemy Experiment

by Allen Law In professional basketball building team chemistry is everything. The problem, of course, is that team chemistry is more alchemy than an exact science. With so many different players who have different styles, skill sets and, most importantly, personalities, it’s almost impossible for a front office to create pure gold from scratch. As a result most general managers...
