Nazi Gorilla Inspired LeBron's Vogue Cover

Many people who have seen the cover of the latest issue of Vogue, where LeBron James grasps a Bundchen in distress, have had a similar reaction: LeBron seems posed like King Kong warding off bullet-spraying prop planes. The Huffington Post has unearthed what definitely seems to be the cover's inspiration, a WWII propaganda poster. While the original was controversial for other reasons, it definitely seems like this cover has some racist elements. What do you think?

when will we rid the world of nazi gorillas once and for all?

LMAO! Unbelievable. It's amazing we haven't evolved as one people. One race at that. The HUMAN RACE! We still haven't advanced as a people. We no longer need to bang stones or rub sticks to make fire. I guess time still stands still for the slow minded and nieve. What a shame.

I'm curious to know what race the writer of this article is because that is who I think is racist. How can you see so much into something that has so little in it. Why is Lebron compared to a fictional gorilla and-as a Nazi, both of which have negative/demeaning connotations. Would the analogies been different had it been a white athlete and black model or a white athlete and a white model? Oh, and what is a Bundchen? I saw the picture and frankly thought it was a nice/good picture of a celebrity athlete and a supermodel and moved on to taking care of more important concerns of daily living. I just didn't put that much thought and energy into this photo. Racism is really getting old and tired. Get over it and move on. It's a needless waste of time and energy. I'm more focused on thanking God for everything He blesses me with, trying to get out and stay out of debt, enjoying friends and family, helping others out in my own small way and trying to find some happiness in this lifetime in good health and enjoy life. I hope and pray that you do the same.

My bad! Didn't realize Bunchen was the model's last name. I did not read a portion of the article until after I posted my comment.

The poster on the left is from World War I; the Nazis took over Germany prior to World War II. So, whatever the gorilla in question may be or may represent, it has nothing to do with Nazis.

So the $64,000 question is ''Is the depiction racist?'' If it barks like a dog, fetches like a dog, it's not an ostrich. I think this whole thing is rather ridiculous and in fact tired. WAKE UP PLANET EARTH!

you gotta admit that the resemblance is amusing without the racial context...

EXACTLY! Perfectly said! Unfortunately its difficult for some people to separate the two. I dunno. Maybe I'm a bit of a true-believer myself.

I don't understand how racism comes into play here at all. The gorilla in the original US ARMY propaganda poster is representing the Nazi movement. The gorilla is more of a play on King Kong, which by the way was first released in film in 1933. Geez, doesn't that seem to fit the timeline here? Come on people. Don't let some crappy news site make you think the Vogue cover was at all racist. Think things through and try doing some research.

I appreciate where you are coming from but I can't help but realize that the similiarity of the two pictures is more than a coincidence. Maybe not racially motivated but I do think Vogue took some parallels from the propaganda poster. Even look at the similiarity of the dress that the supermodel is wearing. But I agree that I didn't interpret racism in the photo when I happened to see it while standing in a grocery line.
