Re-Sign or Release: Delonte West

The premise is simple. Assume all players are restricted free agents and that they'll likely need at least a small raise from last year's salary. Do you re-sign? Or do you release? Of course, we'll leave LeBron James out of this scenario. And also, a little supporting argument always helps. Do Enjoy.

Re-sign

You better resign him. He was the x factor for them in my opinion.

Agreed. I know I said I felt like the Cavs were a hodge-podge, but I didn't mean Delonte. He seems to know better than the others how to work with, and support, Lebron. Resign.

Re-sign, or at the very least do a sign-and-trade. He was the best player that the Cavs got out of those deadline deals last February.

Re-sign, no doubt about it.

I mean no disrespect, but Is it just me, or is this a dumb question? No one seems to think the Cavs should let him walk. I think the better question would be "Delonte West - What's a good contract?" I'm going to take a stab and say he's worth $4-5 million a year for 3-5 years. I think the Cavs would go $5 million for 5 years with him, but I bet Delonte thinks he'll grow enough in the next few years to be worth more. $5 million is a little high, but he's got size, ball handling, speed, and shooting. At a minimum, he's a good backup for a better PG.

I've always liked West's game, but if I'm negotiating with his agent, I'm bringing up the injury issue. He has missed a bunch of games in each of his four seasons with injury. I like your salary range there - $3-$4 million, but I bet he wants more than that.
