The Chicago Bulls made yet another minor move today, waiving SG Anthony Roberson. Roberson had a non-guaranteed contract that would have seen him make about $86K, but the Bulls have opted to release him rather than pay his small salary. The Bulls recently added G Jannero Pargo and re-signed PG Lindsey Hunter, so Roberson became surplus to the team's needs. The Bulls now have 5 players who can play guard on the roster: PG's Derrick Rose and Hunter, G/F John Salmons, and tweener guards Kirk Hinrich and Pargo, who will likely play both guard positions. If the Bulls' qualifying offer for Aaron Gray still stands, he will be the 13th man with a guaranteed contract on the roster, which is the minimum a team must have. 15 is the maximum number of players a team can have on their roster.Former Illinois F-C James Augustine and former Duke G DeMarcus Nelson have been the best players for the Bulls in the summer league outside of James Johnson and Taj Gibson, who already have guaranteed contracts. Augustine averaged 9.6 ppg, 8.6 boards, and 28 minutes per game in 5 summer league games, while shooting 67.7% from the field and 85.7% from the charity stripe. The summer league means absolutely nothing, but he might be able to contribute more than Gray, especially as he can move the court much faster and play power forward as well as center. Nelson was on the Bulls' roster at the end of last season, but did not play. Nelson began the year with Golden State, but soon moved to the D-League, where he posted some fairly impressive numbers. He averaged 13.8 ppg on 48.1% shooting in 26.2 minutes per game in the summer league. The final summer league statistics for the Bulls can be found at the NBA's website, or in this link.
