According to a story in the Freep by Mark Snyder, ticket sales are expected to be lower this year because of the economy...and a 3-9 record in 2008 didn't help much either. Michigan's season-ticket renewal applications went out last week -- by e-mail and snail mail. And with a renewal deadline of May 8, the athletic department should have a decent view of its numbers by the middle of the month. The early barometer comes from student renewals, which are a bit down from recent years. Their deadline passed last week. There might be a boost with new student applications in the summer, but that interest level is still difficult to gauge. Associate athletic director for ticketing Marty Bodnar said he's expecting the economy to take a toll on renewals, which are "down a little bit, not a lot." He said the typical 2-3% nonrenewal rate could settle more in the 5-6% range this year. Finding people to fill those seats won't be a problem, though, given the br...

Cavs Toy With Pistons Before Slapping Them Around Like They Stole Something

Cleveland's 102-84 game one victory over Detroit is a classic example of a game in which the score was close for a while but the outcome was never really in doubt--not for the players on either team and not for anyone who watched the game. The Pistons briefly led by two points and the Cavs were never ahead by more than 10 until late in the first half but the whole exercise had...

Never a Doubt: Cavs Dominate Pistons in Game One 102-84

The Cavs slogan for the 2009 NBA Playoffs is rather simple - “One Goal.” Saturday afternoon in game one at Quicken Loans Arena, that goal got just a little bit closer, as the team scored their first win of the postseason, dominating the Detroit Pistons 102-84. It was the workman like effort that has made [...]

Game 2009.113: Tigers at Angels

PREGAME:  There’s a lot going on tonight for Detroit sports fans. You’ve got the Red Wings against Columbus. The Detroit Pistons against the Cavs. Dontrelle Willis is starting for Lakeland. Joel Zumaya is pitching for Toledo. And oh yeah, the Tigers play after all of them in Orange County. Prior to the season this series looked [...]

King for a Day: Tayshaun Prince Leads Detroit to a Victory Over Miami

Tayshaun Prince set his career-high in scoring (34 points) and tied his career-high in rebounds (12) as the Detroit Pistons beat the Miami Heat, 91-80. Detroit double-teamed Shaquille O'Neal (nine points, seven rebounds) but the Diesel's labored post moves make one wonder if that is even necessary at this point.

Pistons Rally Falls Short; Cavaliers Win 94-82 Go Up 2-0 In Series

In the end, you didn’t think the Cavaliers would make it that easy - did you? The game Detroit Pistons were once again over-matched, out-hustled and out-played by the Cavaliers in game two of their best of seven series Tuesday night at Quicken Loans Arena. They trailed by as many as 29 points in the second [...]

Billups Blows Up As Nuggets Swat Down Hornets 113-84

How would you like to be Detroit Pistons President of Basketball Operations Joe Dumars right about now? Not only did your team barely make it into the Eastern Conference Playoffs with a below .500 record. It was bad enough seeing your team pummeled by the far superior Cleveland Cavaliers in your first Post Season game [...]

Monday Quick Hits

OK, These posts might become more common in the offseason as there isn’t a ton of actual news to report/analysis to undertake. As reported by several other outlets over the weekend, Michigan’s pursuit of Greg Paulus has come to an end. I was basically indifferent on the Paulus situation, and I hope the Wolverines can bring [...]

NBA Playoffs: The Best Time of Year - But Not For The Celtics

It doesn't get much better than this. Temperatures are starting to occasionally reach 60, unless you live in Colorado where the threat of 43 inches of spring snow is not diminishing, the NBA and NHL playoffs are under way and major league baseball has returned. As a sports fan, it's hard to focus on what is important when there are so many viewing options. Was Saturday...

Greg Paulus Update!

Although it now appears that Greg Paulus will not play football for Michigan, he may havea chance to go back home and play for the Syracuse Orange. Paulus displays college athletics at its finest Paulus would need waiver for football eligibility

BAG IT, PAULUS, YOU’RE NOT PLAYING FOOTBALL

I’m getting rather GD tired (GD = God damn) of this Greg Paulus non-story story. This story is a [...]

Latest On Paulus

As the Greg Paulus tour continues, speculation turns to Nebraska and Syracuse as possible football destinations.  Interestingly, Washington's Jon Brockman is considering a similar move. Paulus could prove smart NFL Risk Paulus to SU?

APPARENTLY DUKE IS GETTING BETTER

And that, of course, is ridiculous…Oh well. White 24, Blue 17...According to J.P. Giglio of ACC Now: There's a reason Greg Paulus has to look elsewhere to play quarterback in 2009. Duke quarterbacks Thad Lewis and Sean Renfree were both effective in Saturday's spring game at Wallace Wade Stadium. Renfree, a redshirt freshman, completed 15-of-24 passes for 210 yards...
