by Brett PollakoffFiled under: Lakers, Magic, PlayoffsThere isn't really a nice way to put this, so I'm just going to lay it out there: Stan Van Gundy created a real mess with the way he handled the Magic's point guards in Game 1 of the NBA Finals. And now it's on him to get it cleaned up in time for Game 2 on Sunday. The problem is, there's no easy way to do that. Between Jameer Nelson playing 23 minutes, Rafer Alston blaming his extended time on the bench for his poor shooting, and Anthony Johnson picking up a DNP-CD, Van Gundy might just have too many issues to resolve as his team prepares for round two against the Lakers.Van Gundy Needs to Clean Up Orlando's Point Guard Mess originally appeared on Fanhouse NBA Blog on Sun, 07 Jun 2009 08:00:00 EST . He Wants the Trophy, the Victory, the Glory

What can you say after such complete domination? What’s to discuss when every moment in Game 1 of the NBA Finals belonged to the Lakers?
The Magic were embarrassed. They were so thoroughly beat, in fact, that scapegoat talk was even abandoned. Jameer Nelson didn’t “throw off” the team’s chemistry. The entire Orlando squad performed at...
Should Rafer Alston Start (or even play) in Game 3?
In the first two games of the NBA finals, Rafer Alston has played terribly. He's been clanking open jump shots, attempting floaters when an open layup is available and just not playing his game. So I'm going to put on my SVG hat and ask myself: should Rafer start, or play in game 3?I would support a bold move here. This is the finals, everyone has to put every option on the...
The Mighty Struggles of Orlando’s Guards
For the Magic to make this a series, the guards will have to step it up back on their home floor: “The point-guard situation is a mess, to put it kindly, with Jameer Nelson trying to get his feet under him and Rafer Alston trying to locate the basket. The shooting guards are, well…there’s a reason they are called shooting guards, right? But here are the unsightly...
From 'Skip' to Rafer -- his ultimate crossover
Magic guard Rafer Alston made a name for himself as streetballer 'Skip to My Lou.' Now an NBA veteran, Alston has helped put the Orlando in the Finals and stands at the intersection of two hoops worlds.
It seems like another lifetime, back when the skinny little kid everyone called...

Chris Mannix: Nelson's return leaves Van Gundy with critical choice
Rafer Alston or Jameer Nelson? The backup who got the Magic to the Finals, or the now-healthy starter? Down 1-0, Stan Van Gundy's choice in Game 2 is critical, says Chris Mannix.
Nelson’s return puts Magic’s Alston in tricky spot

Kinshasa
Well, that didn't exactly go like we hoped, now did it?Holy cow the Magic looked bad last night - and was it me or did it seem like Rafer Alston missed 17 3-pointers in the third quarter?Anyway, the only positive I took away from last night's bludgeoning was the chance to see DJ Mbenga come off the bench in the dying minutes of the game - his second appearance in an NBA Finals...
Alston out of rhythm with Nelson back with Magic
LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Rafer Alston helped guide the Orlando Magic to the NBA finals, then helped them take a lead after the first quarter of Game 1.
Orlando's Heavy Rotation
Posted by Kevin Arnovitz Stan Van Gundy entered the NBA Finals with a full menu of options at point guard, shooting guard, and small forward. With Jameer Nelson's return from injury, Van Gundy now has, count 'em, four legitimate options at the point: Rafer Alston, Hedo Turkoglu, Anthony Johnson, and Nelson. On the wings, Van Gundy can mix and match Turkoglu with Courtney...
NBA Finals Game 2 Live Blog
by Brett PollakoffFiled under: Lakers, Magic, NBA Live Blogging, PlayoffsThe first game of the Finals was all Lakers, but a 25-point win still only counts for one. The Magic can erase all those bad memories and even the series with a win tonight in Game 2. Will Jameer Nelson be a factor? WIl Dwight Howard get more than a single field goal? Will Kobe Bryant continue to show off his...
Making Adjustments For Game 2
After another break, it's finally time for game two of the NBA finals! I'm ready, but I want to know what's going to be different in this game, don't you?Magic OffenseThe Magic need just a couple things to improve their offense. They need to run more high pick and rolls with their point guards, space the floor a little better and try to establish Rashard Lewis earlier...
