TEAMS: San Francisco Giants
They DO have a lot of young talent. But if the final year of Dave Roberts' awful 3-year $18 Million contract prevents exciting young speedsters like Fred Lewis and Rajai Davis from seeing action in the outfield (same goes with Ray Durham keeping Eugenio Velez on the bench), Giants fans will be very disappointed.
What about just buying out the contracts of Roberts and Durham and giving these younger players a chance? NBA teams do this all the time. Hell, college athletic departments do it. Apparently, Sabean and company do not like any of these above mentioned prospects or they wouldn't have dished out $60 Million for Aaron Rowand.
This article says 81-81, but I cannot see this team scoring enough runs. I think a maximum of 75 wins is more probable. My prediction 72-89, last in the NL West.

…. Sanity?
Two things just happened. The Giants signed Aaron Rowand to a five year deal worth $60 million, and Brian Sabean just said that Cain and Lincecum are off the table. I say, Hoo-fucking-ray to both. Rowand ain’t great, but all he cost us was money, (pretty much anybody is getting $10 million [...
Just Rowand a Canoe in McCovey Cove
I apologize, that was worse than most Chris Berman nicknames - let's just move on, no? Brian Sabean wasn't about to go an entire off-season without making a questionable move, and today he satisfied that quota; signing 30 year old Aaron Rowand to a five year deal worth 60 million. The problem here i...
THE GIANTS IN SECOND PLACE?!
Sanchez' 0.69 ERA is pretty impressive but what has me more impressed is the Giants are manufacturing some runs. Even Jose Castillo has at times done a pretty decent job of hitting the ball. Fred Lewis, Velez and now Burriss make this team exciting to watch. I know the pressure is on for the offense since the starting pitching and even relievers are winning the games. Aurilia...
Werth His Weight in Gold
Since Werth's return on August 1st, he's been one of the hottest players in the league, hitting .361, with 4 home runs and 37 RBI's. He's also been one of the more clutch players in the Phillies lineup. Whether it's stealing a base late in the game that allowed him to score, a great defensive catch, or a key hit, Werth does whatever it takes to help the team...
Rowand to S.F., Kenny Williams Likely Shocked
Aaron Rowand did Cubs fans everywhere a great service Wednesday afternoon, when he signed a 5 year $60 million deal with the San Fransisco Giants. Rowand will slide into center for the Giants who will likely move Dave Roberts to left field to take over for a departing Barry Bonds. Rowand was seeking ...
Thome's Out, Rowand's In
Pat Gillick, GM of the Philadelphia Phillies, has established that Jim Thome will be sent to the White Sox in exchange for Aaron Rowand. Thome will be back in his home state playing for a championship team. Ryan Howard will now have the first base position full-time. Aaron Rowand is supposed to be a ...
Don't Let the Door Hit You...
Matt Morris is gone, traded to the Pirates for outfielder Rajai Davis and a player to be named later. Personally, I'm ecstatic about the trade (though Morris is certainly none too pleased). Even though Morris's value plummeted to the point where Brian Sabean was essentially begging teams to take him,...
Cards Considering Grudzielanek?
Joe Strauss of the St. Louis Post Dispatch is reporting that the Skip Schumaker experiment at second base is not going as well as planned. Schumaker is batting .300 (10-for-30), but is struggling with his foot work at second base. The Cardinals have several in-house options so they don't necessarily need to make a move, but Strauss believes the Cardinals may explore a trade or...

Chris Gomez is a Pirate no more.
I really like Nicolas' idea to do a sort of Pirates' "Futures Game." I'm pretty sure the team used to do something like this in the 90s, but

Giants Never Fail to Amaze Me, Sign Renteria to $18.5 Million Deal
Instead of getting younger (which would have been prudent for the post-Bonds era), the Giants continue to throw millions at over-priced veterans. First, it was signing a 38-year old Omar Vizquel (though, to the Giants credit, $5 million for a gold glove isn't too much to spend). Then it was the Barry Zito abortion of a signing that paid him $14.5 million in 2008 - nearly $1 million...
Phillies add starting pitcher and two outfielders to roster
Although the Phillies were unable to land any blockbuster free agent signings, they did improve their roster by adding a 5th starting pitcher and two outfielders to help replace the loss of Aaron Rowand.
Yankees should pursue other Molina
While most Yankees fans are clamoring for a left fielder or another starting pitcher as the July 31 trade deadline looms, one overlooked position seems to be that of catcher. It appears Jorge Posada is lost for the season, and it could be that he is no longer able to play as an everyday backstop again.
In the meantime, Jose Molina has filled in as the regular catcher, with very...
We have questions, A's reliever Brad Ziegler has answers
Baseball doesn't have an award for the feel-good story of the year, but if it did, A's reliever Brad Ziegler would have a hammerlock on the honor.
I mean, just try to come up with a better baseball story than his.
Four years ago he nearly died in a Modesto hospital after being drilled in the head by a wicked line drive off the bat of current Giants outfielder...
