For the second straight game, the Celtics squared off against a recent trade partner, last night facing the Orlando Magic.  Glen Davis and Von Wafer were swapped for Brandon Bass before last season by Danny Ainge.  In a move that most Celtic’s fans can unanimously agree was a positive move for the future of the Celtics, it also appears to be a good move for Big Baby (via The Orlando Sentinel).“Doc is more of a military-minded type of guy,” Davis said. “Jacque is more of a Gandhi type of guy: soft but powerful. Doc is more of a ‘get-the-job-done’ [person]. Jacque Vaughn is more of a guy who’ll ask you, ‘What’ll make you feel comfortable to get the job done?’“I think that’s different with players, but sometimes I think my system and the way I feel and the way I function, I feel like I function better in Jacque’s system. Doc wasn’t the type of guy to pat you on your back and say, ‘Good job, man.’ He’s more like, ‘All right, move on.’“In a way, that’s positive. But some players are different. Jacque is a different guy. He’ll pat you on the back [and say] ‘good job’ to motivate you. But at the same time, he still holds you accountable if you’re doing things wrong.”This instantly brings back memories of the game where Glen Davis cried after the tough love he received from Kevin Garnett who very much follows Doc’s lead.  That sense of accountability is not for everyone, as the former LSU big man seems to need a pat on the back once in a while to feel comfortable on the court.  Glen Davis is currently tied for 19th in the league in field goal attempts, averaging 15.1 per game, ahead of any Celtic player (Paul Pierce is 24th), so it appears that Vaughn will soon be a full time massage therapist.  Davis made it known during his time in green that he believed he deserved more looks and opportunities to shine at both ends of the court.  The current landscape in Orlando is seems to be perfect. It remains to be seen whether a team can win with Glen Davis at the starting power forward position, but I am happy he has found a place which better meets his needs as a basketball player.  It will be interesting to see where Davis ends up after his current contract expires and track if the next couple of years in Orlando change his current view.
