A way-too-early look at the massive 2018 NBA free agent class

The 2018 NBA free agent class has a chance to be one of the best ever with some of the top superstars in the league possibly available. The following players are some of the best from a deep crop.

1 of 24

LaMarcus Aldridge

Aldridge has a player option in 2018 for more than $22 million, so it's far from a sure thing that he will be available. If he does opt out, there should be a healthy market for the five-time All-Star, even as his scoring production has fallen off in two seasons with the Spurs.

Carmelo Anthony

Anthony has an early termination option, though his basketball future in 2017-18 is also up in the air after falling out with the Knicks last season. For all the criticism he's received with New York in recent seasons, Anthony still averaged 22.4 points and 5.9 rebounds per game last season.

Trevor Ariza

A key piece of what could be a very competitive Rockets team in 2017-18, Ariza averaged 11.7 points and 5.7 rebounds per game while shooting nearly seven threes a night. The journeyman should draw plenty of interest.

Trevor Booker

One the Nets' few viable assets, Booker had a career year in Brooklyn last season, averaging 10 points and eight rebounds per game. The power forward might not be a starter for a more competitive team, but he has proved his value in recent seasons.

Avery Bradley

Bradley's play has improved with the Celtics in recent seasons, as he's set career highs in points per game in consecutive years. He also added 6.1 rebounds per game last season and shot 39 percent from three.

DeMarcus Cousins

Cousins was a huge get for the Pelicans in a trade from Sacramento during the regular season and has one more year on his contract. He's become one of the most dominant centers in the game over the last three years, most recently averaging 27 points and 11 rebounds per game between Sacramento and New Orleans.

Derrick Favors

An injury-plagued season for Favors makes 2017-18 a very important year for his value. He's only entering his age 26 season but saw his points per game average go from 16.4 in 2015-16 to just 9.5 last season with the Jazz.

Paul George

George is set to play next season in Oklahoma City and has been rumored to be seeking a move west to the Lakers. He could benefit from playing with Russell Westbrook before he can opt out of his contract, even after averaging a career-high 23.7 points per game last season.

LeBron James

Cleveland fans seem to be mentally preparing for another James exodus with his player option following next season. LeBron continues to put the Cavs on his back, leading them to the NBA Finals for the third straight year and averaging 26.4 points, 8.6 rebounds and 8.7 assists last season.

10 of 24

Joe Johnson

Johnson was used mostly off the bench in Utah last season, but he did averaged 9.2 points in 23.6 minutes per game. His free agent upside will be greatly determined by his minutes next season.

11 of 24

DeAndre Jordan

The Clippers' Big Three already broke up when Chris Paul was traded to Houston, and Jordan could be the next domino to fall with a player option following next season. He's averaged more than 13 rebounds per game in four straight seasons.

12 of 24

Cory Joseph

A solid backup point guard for the Raptors, Joseph could want more and decline his player option after next season. He averaged 9.3 points and 3.3 assists last season.

13 of 24

Enes Kanter

The Thunder is already worried about retaining Russell Westbrook and Paul George following the season, but the team also has to worry about Kanter, who holds a player option. He's been terrific off the bench over the last two seasons and averaged 14.3 points and 6.7 rebounds last season.

14 of 24

Brook Lopez

Lopez was traded back west to L.A. and should provide a welcome presence in the paint for the Lakers. One of the greatest Nets players ever, Lopez averaged more than 20 points per game in three of the last four seasons.

15 of 24

Wesley Matthews

Matthews already cashed in excessively once with Dallas but has seen his productive fall off since joining the Mavs two years ago. He's still a quality contributor, averaging more than 13 points per game last season, and could decline his player option for 2018-19.

16 of 24

Greg Monroe

The Bucks could move Monroe this offseason after he was forced to play off the bench last year. Despite the decline in minutes, Monroe averaged 11.7 points and 6.6 rebounds per game.

Tony Parker

It would be almost unimaginable for Parker to leave San Antonio unless he was to retire. He will miss the start of next season due to quad surgery.

18 of 24

Chris Paul

Paul was traded to Houston this offseason and will have at least one season with the Rockets. He's past his prime but still an elite point guard, averaging 18.1 points and 9.2 assists for the Clippers last season.

19 of 24

J.J. Redick

Redick signed a lucrative one-year deal with Philadelphia this offseason, and he could sign a bigger deal next offseason. An elite three-point shooter, Redick shot nearly 43 percent from three for the Clippers last season.

20 of 24

Isaiah Thomas

Thomas has become a superstar in Boston, and it seems unlikely that the team would let him get away next offseason. He averaged 28.9 points and 5.9 assists last season.

21 of 24

Dwyane Wade

Wade enjoyed being home in Chicago last season and has one more year in what's looking like a rebuilding project following the Jimmy Butler trade. If healthy, Wade should still get a huge payday next offseason despite his advanced age.

22 of 24

Russell Westbrook

Westbrook is riding high after winning MVP, and he's one year away from being able to opt out of his contract in Oklahoma City. The Thunder will certainly want to retain him, but it remains to be seen if he will want to remain in a small market.

23 of 24

Lou Williams

Traded to the Clippers for Chris Paul, Williams has turned into a top three-point shooter in recent seasons. He averaged a career-high 17.5 points last season between the Lakers and Rockets.

24 of 24

Thaddeus Young

Young saw his production drop off last season with Indiana, averaging only 11 points and 6.1 rebounds per game. He's played for some especially mediocre teams during his NBA career and can opt out of his contract following next season.
