Milton Nunez’s Thursday claim that Allen Iverson would be playing for his team Pueblo Nuevo in the Dominican Republican has shocked the 2001 Most Valuable Player of the NBA All-Star Game. Nunez made the claim to the Associated Press, but Iverson’s manager, Gary Moore has come out to say that there is no way the 36-year-old point guard and shooting guard (fifth best ever according to ESPN in 2008) is going nowhere. According to the manager, Iverson is training in wait for the next available opportunity. Iverson, who is 6ft tall made history when he was drafted into the NBA by the Philadelphia 76ers as the shortest first overall pick ever in 1996 and went on to become the Rookie of the Year in the 1996–97 season. Iverson joining the 76ers turned out to be a good investment for them as he conntributed greatly to the rise of the team, helping them to advance to the 2001 NBA Finals against Kobe Bryant’s LA Lakers who were the defending champions at the time. A representative for the United States at the 2004 Summer Olympics and bronze medalist, Iverson has also featured for NBA sides the Denver Nuggets, Detroit Pistons and the Memphis Grizzlies before returning to Philadelphia two seasons ago. He had a brief spell in Beksitas, Turkey where he was averaging between 18 and 26 points per game. Now there are reports from Yahoo! Sports that the former NBA star will now be heading to Puerto Rico. [Image Via] YummySports
