Many basketball coaches preach to their players to not pick up their dribble unless they’re going to pass or shoot it. The Raptors’ Amir Johnson picked up his dribble Wednesday night, but chose option (c) which was dribble again to get a better look at the hoop. Per NBA rules in which the double dribble and traveling are both optional, it wasn’t called. And actually, it was barely even noticed. It got by all three officials and four of the five Blazers. The on-ball defender, J.J. Hickson, didn’t even complain until Johnson’s shot had already fallen. As you can see by Johnson’s reaction, even he was flabbergasted how he got away with it. NBA basketball, it’s fantastic.
