The Magic are on a seven-game losing streak.
No getting around that. Wins and losses are what teams are judged by and ultimately what success is determined from. They matter. Even for a team like this Magic team that is focusing on rebuilding and development, as Josh Robbins of the Orlando Sentinel writes.
I think that the overall streak of losing does start to take a toll on you," Arron Afflalo said Friday. "The game itself I usually can overcome the next day. I think about losing that many in a row. I don't think I've ever lost that many games before.
Still losing sucks.
Orlando wants to build winning habits even if the team is struggling to actually do so. Jacque Vaughn's even keel and positive outlook is trying to help push the Magic ahead and onward and out of this losing streak.
In this losing streak, the Magic have lost five games by four or fewer points. And of course there is the no Glen Davis thing. The Magic's losing streak though goes deeper than a couple of close calls and missing a key player.
Orlando is averaging a 105.0 offensive rating but the defense has slipped considerably to a 114.1 defensive rating. The team's average in those two areas are 99.2 and 101.8. So while the Magic offense is humming along much better during this streak, the defense is significantly worse.
So the way out of this losing streak, the longest for the Magic since 2006, is to do the simple things. Keep up the offense and get back to the team's defensive principles.
